Marvin and Garvin? I don't think that bodes well for any children born into this house! But the kitty is adorable!

My vet was surprised when I named my cats something that sounded similar. The vet felt that the cats would get confused. I had never thought of that, but something to think about when you name your pets. Mine are victor and victoria, I figured the difference would be two syllables vs. one it would be okay. Not sure if just the first letter changed would make a difference for them.

We took in a little shih tzu named Bo when he was about 3 months old. We already had 3 other shih tzus. Everytime we yelled for (or at!!) Bo, all the other dogs would stop in their tracks no matter what they were doing. We surmised that Bo sounds like NO and so we added "wey" to Bo and it became Bowey. Problem solved.
But if you yell for Marvin to come and get Garvin, too that's twice the love at once.

Jennifer, we also have a Victoria- known in this household as QUEEN VICTORIA, because that is her lifestyle. she is L O V E D.

I have Ben (21), Pookie (17), Pebbles (12), ComeHere (9), & Cat (17mos). the "P" sound brings both girls running. They did not like this, or each other, so Pebbles is called Bulls. Pookie was here when I took in Pebbles, & Der Pook is Alpha Cat. My vet told me to never have two with similiar names, such as Frick & Frack.

I found a stray dog on my porch a year ago and after advertising for two weeks with no response she became a part of my family. We named her Zoey. About two months ago my husband was doing some work for a lady who was going to move to another state and could not take her dog with her. Well, to make a long story short, she(the dog) became a part of our family. She is four years old and her name is Chloe. Now, whats so strange is that Zoey and Chloe are the same color and the same size, they look like they came from the same litter. Of course they didn`t but somehow we ended up with twins. They get along great. Sisters from other mothers.

Nora#10 Nora7-20-2010 @ 10:50AM

Or Justhorses sisters from another mister! lol

I got a cat when I was three years old and named her Pretty Kitty just temporarily. She died 20 years later, still Pretty Kitty. I miss her.

One year ago we found a pitiful tiny kitten in our yard. Someone had thrown them out all over the neighborhood -- we saw a lot of dead ones on the roadside. I wish I knew who they were. Anyway, although as empty nesters we had not planned on any more pets she stole our hearts as we nursed her back to health.
When it was decided we were keeping her name time came up. Since my husband and I are at the age of forgetting names we came up with "Katz". Katz comes when we call and has added so much fun and joy to our lives. What was a horrible thing for someone to do -- has been a blessing for us. RESCUE A CAT TODAY!

Is there ANYTHING that YOU can do to help those poor babies?? With no claws, they have NO defense against any other animal. And with NO food or water?? Is he crazy? Or call the local animal shelter and have them come and pick up those cats. Your friend is a MORON!

Kat#15 Kat7-20-2010 @ 1:53PM

I'd pick up his cats, & dump him as a 'buddy'.
He's worthless, but those cats are precious.
Sooo very not fair to them.

Go get the kitties in the yard!
Save them!

Pam#16 Pam7-20-2010 @ 6:22PM

Regarding the "buddy" that threw his cats out of the house! That needs to be reported to the ASPCA immediately!!

Katie#17 Katie7-20-2010 @ 6:19PM

Good for you Ariel! It's sad and disheartening to see what people do to animals, especially cats. I currently have two "rescues" myself and these two boys have brought nothing but joy and laughter into our household. I brought one of my first "rescues" into my current household and this beautiful cat we named Serendipity, stole the heart of an avowed "cat hater"! He now is a "cat lover" however he won't freely admit it! He even has called home and left voice mail on the phones for the cats when we've been gone on vacation!
Enjoy your loves and always leave your heart open as these critters can sneak in and steal your heart!!!

You might be right, Nora. Who knows, stranger things have happened.

justhorses#19 justhorses7-20-2010 @ 11:35AM

To Ariel, you and your husband sound like you have great, big hearts. We live in the country on a dead end road and you might (or might not)be surprised how many people dump animals. I feed alot of feral cats. Too many to name them all,but they eat. I wish there was more I could do for them but I can`t afford to trap them and have them spayed or neutered. We all just have to do the best we can when it comes to any animals. Most times I`d rather be around animals than people. Pets keep you young----at heart.

Flora Goldman#20 Flora Goldman7-20-2010 @ 12:30PM

If you will check around, every area has "private rescue" organizations. they will generally, have the traps, and then they take the animals. The organizations will spay/neuter and return them to the area. Many times, they will put up the cats or dogs for adoption. Please take advantage and search for the ones in your area. Best of luck and good wishes.
