It's summertime, and everybody's got World Cup fever, even pets! This cute kitten apparently got a little overexcited during a pre-Cup exhibition soccer match -- oops, we mean association football match -- between Tunisia and France. Fortunately, player Yassine Mikari of the Tunisian team was quick enough on his feet to catch the furry feline and carry it to safety.

World Cup? who cares? what a waste of time.

equistar#2 equistar6-12-2010 @ 3:00PM

Why did you comment about the world cup? This article was about a kitten. maybe you should return to school and practice critical reading. As to who cares? Just about the entire world cares. Soceer is the most popular sport in the world. Would you say such a comment about the olympics?

Megs#3 Megs6-12-2010 @ 3:25PM

Everyone in the whole wide world - except you - apparently.

elin#4 elin6-12-2010 @ 5:23PM

World Cup Football is better than any American games. American sports are boring and yes, I've been to NBA, MLB and NFL. A big YAWN all around!

Hey cool it. That was a cute shot ... and a player carrying it to safety is pretty heart-warming too.

If you want to get crusty, consider AOL's devious and sneaky policy of creating "profiles" under your screen names. DOn't believe me? Click onto your name right here and see. Surprise!

WARNING ... there is a Hyperlink under your display name on this comment board.

That profile was created the first time you signed on to ANY comment board on AOL ... and there are almost a hundred of them, including this one. It's linked to your EMail address . Permanently.

Now look at the archives of EVERY comment you've ever made, right there on your profile. To be seen by anyone who clicks onto it.

AOL never even warned you a "profile" was being made. Only that your comment had been "verified". AOL apparently thinks "verify" or "confirm" means "set up unauthorized profile". Sneaky sneaky

Oh yes. If you have an unusual name, your profile may be picked up by Google Search and you'll be all over the World Wide Web as an independent link. Instant fame?

We don't care about a single comment being picked up. We DO care about an archive.

Nasty Nasty ....

AOL .. play fair.

* Drop the practice of setting up unauthorized profiles
* Want to keep those profiles. Then INFORM us when we first post.
* Set the preference to "Private" by DEFAULT
* Remove "Profiles" from Google Search

The last time a cat wandered into a soccer stadium in South Africa it was kicked to death by the local team. I guess this time the kitten was lucky it was a team from another country. Savages.

Chris#7 Chris6-12-2010 @ 3:16PM

Not everyone in south africa are savages. If they were such savages, we would not be holding the world cup there. You cannot judge the whole population based on 2-20 people. Some of my relatives are from south africa, and they are quite the opposite of what you think is, savage

Jill#8 Jill6-12-2010 @ 3:24PM

Actually Chris, I'm South African. I'm refering to the majority population in South Africa when I said "savages". Superstitious savages actually. I'm sure your relations would agree! Check with them!

thinkingperson#9 thinkingperson6-12-2010 @ 5:47PM

I think Cal was calling the people who killed the kitten savages, and to that end - I agree.

Marcelle#10 Marcelle6-18-2010 @ 8:12AM

Cal, Jill and Ayla - you are clearly blithering idiots! I trust that none of you are South African, because if you are, you obviously don't live in the same country I do. If you're not, I suppose your ignorance can be forgiven. you should learn not to voice your opinions simply for the sake of being heard.

such beautiful animals

ronald#12 ronald6-12-2010 @ 3:23PM

last tim e a rabbit went on to the football feild during a game and the rabbit made a touch down was so funny he out ran the players right into the feild gold

CJM#13 CJM6-12-2010 @ 3:44PM

Kudos to Yassine Mikari for picking that kitten up and carrying it to safety. I'm a former soccer player and would have done the same so I hope comment #5 isn't true. Anyone who would cause intentional harm to any animal that couldn't defend itself should be ashamed of themselves.

I find it interesting that even the idiots who are copying and repeating this whole story for their own gain (get rich quick and find love connections) are missing the typo..."quick enough on his feet TO catch the furry feline..." And sure, it's a "fluff" piece of non-newsworthy news, but with all the crap going on lately, isn't it nice to read something that brings even the tiniest bit of a smile?

Daria#15 Daria6-12-2010 @ 4:19PM

It's nice to know that there are still wonderful human beings left in this screwed-up world. There are so many cruel people that perpetrate unspeakable atrocities to defenseless animals, that it breaks my heart. No matter how small this story is, it still made me smile.

notacutestunt#16 notacutestunt6-12-2010 @ 4:41PM

I find it VERY hard to believe that, this little kitten found it's way to the area and right out onto the soccer field. SOMEONE brought that kitten to the game and turned it loose out on the field....most likely thinking it would get attention (which it has) OR thinking this would be cute. It isn't in the least CUTE. This little baby could have been kicked, stomped, tripped over, or someone could have fallen on it. A VERY dangerous and CRUEL stunt.....and while I'm so happy the player was able to get it and carry it to safety.....there should NOT have been a story done on it because NOW.......all the nut jobs will be wanting to try it. Glad the kitten is safe. It could have ended up suffering and dying!

OLTL Historian#17 OLTL Historian6-12-2010 @ 5:07PM

Had I been there That PRECIOUS kitten would be flying to his new home with me in my home land !

Ayla#18 Ayla6-12-2010 @ 5:06PM

To the Cal person. Mostly South Africa has white people. British people. The British people segregate the native Africans on one side. And they treat them like crap. They still go through racism and if they (Africans) do anything that is not whats expected of them (Following laws that were put on them), they would be put in jail, and/or beaten. Who is the savage now? But I'm glad that the "football" player was kind enough to do that. Makes me glad that there is still nice people out there. :D

thinkingperson#19 thinkingperson6-12-2010 @ 6:03PM

Ayla - What century are you living in? First of all, the whites in South Africa are DUTCH descendants, not British! And apartheid was outlawed years ago! The separation that once existed, no longer does. You HAVE heard of Mandela, haven't you? Sheeesh! Talk about IDIOT!!

Ayla#20 Ayla6-14-2010 @ 4:25PM

There are Dutch decedents in South Africa, and there are British decedents too. In the late 1400s a Portuguese sailor was the first to reach the end tip of Africa. In the middle 1600s a DUTCH sailor used it as a "refreshment" stops for other boats. Dutch East India Company soon was materialized and shipped out slaves. Great Britain took over the Cape of Good Hope in 1795. The British annexed the Cape Colony in 1806. Made wars with the Natives, but encouraged BRITISH SETTLEMENT. British people do still live there, along with other cultures. Yes, segregation lasted a loooonnnggg time. But it finally ending in 1990. But discrimination still goes on. Wow. I know at some points I was wrong... But. Wow. Just Dutch decedents....? Little off there buddy.
