The Chinese crested hairless might not have looked like a million bucks, but she had a heart of pure gold. The odd-looking pup was a big time fundraiser for the Sevier County Humane Society in Sevierville, Tenn., raising over $100,000 for the organization. In fact, she even had her own day: November 12 is "Miss Ellie Day" in her hometown of Pigeon Forge, Tenn., AOL News reports.
Other claims to fame include a few starring roles at Pigeon Forge's Comedy Barn and an appearance on Animal Planet's "Dogs 101," according to Paw Print Post. As the winner of Animal Planet's 2009 World's Ugliest Dog Competition, Miss Ellie had been scheduled to compete in the 2010 competition next month.
Our hearts go out to Miss Ellie's owner, Dawn Goehring, who brought Miss Ellie to live with her and 13 other rescue dogs when the pooch was 7 years old. Coping with the death of a beloved pet is difficult, but we hope it helps Goehring to know that people the world over are mourning the loss of Miss Ellie along with her.
It also looks like people will be remembering Miss Ellie for some time to come. The Mountain Press reports that Goehring plans to raise money to build a new animal shelter in Miss Ellie's honor.

Miss Ellie had a full life after her present owner adopted her..She was loved and cared for, which is all a pet could ask for..17 is a ripe old age ,and I hope her owner takes comfort in knowing that Miss Ellie was blessed to have found a loving home..I wish the same for every pet.RIP little cutie..

How very true your words are. Only someone that does not like dogs would consider any animal to be ugly. I have also found that with what I consider ugly peopple, they are usually ugly from the inside out and it is not their physical appearance that is ugly.
My deepest condolences to Miss Ellie's mom. As another poster stated, she was indeed fortunate to have found such a loving owner as Dawn. My heart breaks for your loss.
Poor Miss Ellie :( I think she was a cute little thing. Losing a beloved pet is like losing a close family member. My thoughts go out to Miss Ellie and her Mommy.

MY DOGS PASSED AWAY SEVERAL YEARS AGO (WOOWOO) AT THE AGE OF 17 AND (HOLMES) AT THE AGE OF 15 I STILL MISS THEM BUT I GAVE THEM THE BEST YEARS AND I STILL LOVE AND WILL NEVER FORGET THEM.
I have two pups and their moma that look just like this and I am trying to git rid of the pups I put them on Craigslist and everyone left some horrible comments about how ugly they were but they are so sweet
Why on earth would you list a pup on Craigs List? Why not try the local paper or a bulletin board at the vets office or super market? If you are soiinterested in getting rid of them, why not have the mom spayed so that it will not happen again. BTW the crested pups do not look like this as pups but as adults...frankly my dear I do not believe you...
