Rare Pink Dolphin Photographed in Amazon River

No, it's not a scene out of "Fantasia." These pink dolphins are the real thing, and photographer Kevin Schafer was the first to photograph the elusive Amazon River dolphins, reports AOL News.

In addition to their pink color, these dolphins are unusual because they live in fresh water in a very remote part of the Rio Negro, an Amazon River tributary in Brazil. It took a month to get the rare photos, but it was worth it.

Schafer describes it as "the project of a lifetime," and we agree. Not only are the images incredible in their own right, but the behaviors Schafer documented helped scientists determine that certain playful actions are actually a mating ritual.
