Rare Pink Dolphin Photographed in Amazon River

In addition to their pink color, these dolphins are unusual because they live in fresh water in a very remote part of the Rio Negro, an Amazon River tributary in Brazil. It took a month to get the rare photos, but it was worth it.
Schafer describes it as "the project of a lifetime," and we agree. Not only are the images incredible in their own right, but the behaviors Schafer documented helped scientists determine that certain playful actions are actually a mating ritual.
