ASPCA Donates $1,000,000 To NYC Homeless Pets
Through the nonprofit Mayor's Alliance for NYC's Animals, a coalition of animal rescue groups, the ASPCA will funnel a million bucks to help the city's needy animals. While the NY Daily News reports that it's not yet clear whether any of those funds will aid the recently slashed budget of New York City Animal Care and Control (the nonprofit currently contracted to run the shelters in the city), it is certain that some of the money will go toward transferring animals from shelters to rescues and aid low-cost spay-and-neuter programs.
Shortlist For Large Conservation Prize Announced
Six finalists have been announced for the $100K Indianapolis Prize for Conservation, and it looks like big cats and marine animals are popular this year. The finalists are Snow Leopard Conservancy founder Rodney Jackson, Cheetah Conservation Fund founder and executive director Laurie Marker, Blue Ocean Institute founder Carl Safina, University of British Columbia seahorse expert Amanda Vincent, Mexican conservation strategist Gerardo Ceballos and Iain Douglas-Hamilton, the president and chief executive of Save the Elephants. The Indianapolis Prize was initiated by the Indianapolis Zoo and is the "the largest individual monetary award for animal conservation in the world and is given as an unrestricted gift to the chosen honoree."
Sparkles the Fire Safety Dog meets Frankie the Walk 'n' Roll Dog.
Sparkles -- who you might already know -- met up with another special dog, Frankie, to teach school children some very important lessons. Fire safety was a big part of the presentation, but they also focused on how to handle adversity and being different, something with which Frankie, a dachshund in a wheelchair, is quite familiar. And that's not all. These tech-savvy dogs shared their message with a Canadian classroom via Skype.

I want to know why the ASCPA only gives money to help the animals in NYC. Why don't they help all over. Do they think they only have animals in NYC? They ought to help animals everywhere.
It's ashame people "need" to be told what to do, as some can't seem to think it through on their own, OR greed overtakes the outcome of their actions. I have worked with ARK in helping to foster some of these poor animals because there are not enough homes for them. I think it would be a great idea if people were forced to license AND neuter/spay their animals "unless" they are willing to pay a heafty license "not to" and then, when a puppy is sold, half of the proceeds should go to animal shelters. I bet that would resolve most of the over population/euthinization problems. It's heartbreaking, people and officials continue to allow this reckless behavior, that causes such unbelievable suffering of these innocent beautiful animals.
I support any and all help we can give our 4 leg friends, If more people would realize that they want to be our friend and deserve so much more love, respect, kindness than most people give them and what you get back is priceless.
The USPS is a big waste of money and should only operate 3 days a week and in 5 years shut down completely. Postal employees perform duties equal to walmart employees yet are paid 5 times more. Time to start getting rid of postal employees bilking taxpayers out of billions.
Next time you want to mail a letter try Fed Ex and see how much it costs you!!
Get your facts straight Santos. The Postal Service does not rely on tax dollars!
Great idea, but why only NewYork? I would like to see them go one step further and support the states that sell these stamps.
Quit complaining about the price of stamps. How many stamps would it take to cover the cost at your next visit to the ARCHES or THE KING. Cut out one trip a month and your stamp expense is covered with a little left over to donate to your local humane scociety. If you react in a negative manner to this comment, this would tell me that you probably only donate to yourself. One less trip a month and your love handles--or saddlebags as I like to call them will start to melt away. Quit looking, there still there. Need a pet, see the humane scociety where you will receive a healthy pet. Go to the mall and ???????
Cindy. If the HSUS and ASPCA are so great why don't they do something about this couple in your area running what amounts to a puppy mill or doesn't anybody report the couple to the authorities?
Because no laws are being broken. Only the laws of decency. These great organizations care for the abused and neglected and offer many programs so people can learn how to take care of their new forever friend. Taking in an animal is a commitment. It's so rewarding.
Another animal rights organization that I like is DogsDeserve Better.com. They are trying to pass legislation everywhere to stop the 24/7 chaining of dogs.
well, i dont know about all you guys, but i been using these stamps for almost a month already... inland empire, california.
I am one of only a very few people I know of who still writes letters in my own hand, sends hand written note cards, and mails off my monthly bills, inside the post office, as I live in the country, and my mailbox is down a long lane.
I chose not to opt for Internet Banking. I make no apologies, to anyone, when I state that I do not trust my information to cyberspace. I patronize the USPS, and always have, and ever shall, for as long as I live.
However, though I do love cats, and have owned many in my lifetime, due to the economy, I am going to have to opt for the more practical Forever stamps.
FYI -- I found out from my local post office today that Halo Pets will donate up to 1,000,000 meals to rescue shelters throughout the country when these stamps are pre-ordered online through the USPS website.
