Kit was only five weeks old when she arrived at the Monterey Bay Aquarium in California in January after being stranded in nearby Morro Bay. This pup recently joined an exhibition at the Aquarium as their youngest sea otter ever.

Here you see her playing with Mae, the 9-year old otter who is showing her the ropes. If after watching this video you want to see more of these cute creatures (like we did) you can go to the Aquarium's live Sea Otter Web Cam which broadcasts daily.

I sure hope things work out for this pup. It looks like they were playing patty-cake!

That is the cutest thing. She's carrying the cub around on her belly and showing the baby how to wash it's face. Is that a male in the background, trying to get into the girl's pool?

When I was little my parents always took us to the zoo. While everyone was looking at all the other animals, I stayed glued to the otter exhibit. It's still the same for me as an adult.
Otters are so sweet looking and I love their antics. ( even though I know they can give a serious bite).... I STILL LOVE TO WATCH THEM. ;0)

We just had an incident here, where an adult otter attacked an elderly man, and found that it carried rabies..

It would be nice if my Quick Time player would work on your web site, I don't know what is causing the problem, maybe AOL?

They are certainly adorable. A few years ago, there was a very cute video with two of them holding hands and swimming around. About a year later, the female one had died. I cried. I think it still might be around - m/l otters holding hands while swimming or the like.

Zoos are terribly cruel places....The animals should be free to run with their families and not kept in cages.

Rich:

In the zoo, they have doctors, real food--fresh food, every day. In the wild, when they get a normal illness, they die. They can starve because there is nothing to eat. Whales eat them, Eskimos beat them to death. Even when the fight, the loser dies. Most of our zoos are associated with one or another rescue foundation that does their best to keep these creatures alive. Do you know how many elephants are left in the wild? Do you know how many travel with circuses and are very well fed, cleaned, cared for and extremely loved by the people who have them? NO hunters to take their tusks, NO Eskimos to beat them to death to steal and sell their fur. You must belong to those PETA idiots who need to get a real life. Adopt a stray cat, they need love.

Rich, the Monterey aquarium only has otters that need help in some fashion, and they are returned to the wild if at all possible. That five week old pup could not survive in the wild; a five month old pup could not. Something clearly happened to the mother (because otherwise the pup would have been riding on her belly), and I'm amazed that the pup could be rescued quickly enough. Even though I know that the otters of Monterey Bay are watched closely. I for one am glad that nature was not allowed to take its course here, because the pup would have died and in my book there aren't enough otters in the world.

Regarding the person who was bitten by a rabid otter - I strongly suspect that it was a river otter, not a sea otter like the ones in Monterey Bay. Different critter, also cute. Sea otters rarely come on land, and would have little chance to encounter rabies carriers; river otters, sadly, would have chances for such contact.

This video was soooooo cute! Otters are just adorable.

Rich these folks rescue the pups who would otherwise die and then release them back into the wild

Rosie Serbian, Your comment was stupid. People should learn to appreciate the animals living in their own habitat. If they did there would be no hunters killing elephants for their tusks. You make a comment about my belonging to Peta, you know NOTHING about me and your comment only shows how stupid you can be. Think before you speak Rosie. And by the way Rosie, I've actually lost track of how many unwanted animals I have adopted and how many injured ones I've tried to help.
