Here at Paw Nation, we know that every pet has a story, and it's usually a story their owners just love to tell. So we decided to hit the streets to ask pets (and their owners) about everything from how they were adopted to what was the naughtiest thing they've ever done. It's our new weekly series, "Pet On The Street." We hope you love it. And be sure to let us know what questions you would like us to ask and what cites we should visit!

I talk to my dogs all the time, and my husband too. LOL. But any way my two four legged kids know when I am talking to them and I know they know what I am talking to them about. Animals know a lot more than most people do in most cases. They are not dumb amimals.
wow... dogs are smarter than humans. didnt they find a cure for cancer, send another dog to the moon and above all alse, invent the internet?
"Dumb" in the case of "Dumb Animals" refers to their inabilty to speak (like in the now outdated and offensive phrase "deaf & dumb"). It is not a commentary on their intelligence.
Of course I talk to my dog.. He understands.. Give them credit...
Yes, I talk to my dog, Nikki, and she talks back to me. We understand each other verbally and by sight signals.
I've tried talking to my dog but she just ignores me and does whatever she wants.
I do have a little voice for her, though.
My husband will actually have complete "conversations" with the dog and me using my little doggie voice.
I think I could have a ventriloquist act and take it on the road if I just had a little Dachshund dummy.
My dog and I talk a lot. He lectures me on buying dog food on sale and I lecture him about sniffing his butt in public
When Whiskas meowed it sounded like he said my name. I used to sing You Are My Sunshine to my dog Bootsie and we knew that Shelli's dog Bruiser could say I love you. Bootsie was 14 when we had to put him to sleep and Whiskas was 18. They were babies when we got them and were just like brothers.
Talk to dogs? Of course I do, doesn't everyone. They are such good listeners. A special voice for talking to my dogs? Yes! It's kind of an annoying baby talk. No problem unless I catch myself talking that way in public, when referring to my dogs. My daughter had this voice for her old siamese cat. When she wanted to do something she would talk in his voice "Mom, Toes wee-ly wants me to go to da mawl wiff my fwends tonight, ok?"
sunny is funny. why not try it with a bunny or on the runny with nothing in your tummy. these are the words of one misguided dummy! just try to see some humor in this since there is so much suffering the world. Promise not to do this again! I love my cats...maybe that's the issue!
Not only have I always talked to dogs, each dog I've had over the years has gotten a different voice (usually shrill, with some kind of accent). Plus there is a voice from the dog to humans for those moments when their adorable expressions need a "caption." My current dog's voice sounds like Ralph Wiggum from the Simpsons and he says "Good Morning Mother" when he wakes up from a nap, no matter what time of day it is. I've been speaking this way to dogs since I was eight (my sisters also engage in doggie talk) and I often forget that other people don't do this...
Of COURSE I talk to my dogs--and my cats. Aside from training them to simple commands (sit, stay, up, go potty) I love to watch them interact with each other.
The male cat "talks stuff" to the German Shepherd, who will take it for so long and then the race around the house is on! (The cat always wins.)
The "lady" female calico just watches with disdain. The "kitten" female calico goes into "tiger mode" when the German Shepherd is on the rampage.
And the female Rottweiler will only take it all so long and then she has to find a quiet corner to stretch out and nap in, bored by the silliness.
I find the pets at my ranch to be far more interesting (not to mention more intelligent) than the people I work with.
I don't have a dog, but i do talk to myself,is that a good thing?
Always! Always have talked to and "with" my dogs. Is there an animal lover who doesn't? Not only that, they talk back, whether it's me speaking for them or they are just stomping paws and howling. It's all good communication. Companions talk with each other.
Its only polite to speak when spoken too. My dog tries to "talk" to me so the least I can do is talk back. Ok maybe animals do not understand our language...but they do respond to basic social cues and the tone in our voice speaks volumes to them. There is no such thing as a "dumb animal". That statement comes from ignorant humans who just don't know (or want to know) that animals can "communicate". We humans just have to learn to listen.
HAPPY HARRY---
Its fine to talk to yourself...but if you have an argument and give yourself the "silent treatment"....well then maybe there is a problem. A lot of brilliant minds think out loud.
I always talk to my dogs and they understand.
I work three jobs and would give anything to have the time I once had to take care of and love a dog. I live in a dog friendly apt complex and I have as many dog friends as people friends. I am always amazed how they know me and like me. I've never fed them or given any of them treats to reinforce the friendship; it just exists, and I love it! All animals have feelings and the people that abuse them anger me to no end. They are VERY sick individuals with control issues.
I use a softer lighter, gentler voice when I talk to my baby boo boo. She's a tiny tiny chihuahua. not quite 1. She has some neurological issues... excessive twirling...
she does not like to be patted or rubbed.. (or she bites)
she hates to be touched on her back or sides...
rubbing her chin...or sides of her face are fine... and SHE loves to "nuzzle" you with her face.... lick you.. love you...
But only on her terms and ways.
I'm thinking....I have an autistic dog. She is brilliant, and is trained well, and trained quickly. She has a large vocabulary of words she understands...
but is very very weird about touch...
reminds me of my grandson and his sensory issues...
Can dogs be autistic?
Are you kidding. I talk to all my animals all the time. I kiss them too. Most of the time they are better then the two legged animals I gave birth too. Show them that you love them talk to them all the time.It makes them happy!(U2)
