A new Associated Press/Petside.com poll asked 1,967 people, including 1,166 with pets, how they feel about pooches and kitties. And the results are in. Seventy-four percent of adults surveyed said they liked dogs a lot, while only 41 percent said they liked cats a lot, the AP reported.

On the flip side, 15 percent of the respondents said they disliked cats a lot, compared to just 2 percent of people who dislike dogs a lot.

The results stirred up heated reactions among pet owners. "Cats are "nasty, stinking creatures," Mark David of Warrensburg, Mo., told the AP. "Cats are 1,000 times smarter than dogs," Bonnie Hanson, of Sioux Falls, S.D., countered in the AP article.

Here at Paw Nation, we're equal-opportunity pet lovers. But we have a theory about why dogs came out on top. In our experience, cats are more likely to bond with one or two people, while most dogs will wag their tails for almost anyone willing to rub their bellies. It's easy for non-dog owners to witness the canine's cute side. But unless you've lived with a cat, you haven't truly appreciated that unique feline charm.

David of Warrensburg obviously has never owned a cat so he should keep his comments to something he knows what he is talking about!! Gee, I thought both cats and dogs take baths, on their own. My cats are constantly bathing, especially after eating. You have to own a cat to understand a cat. That seems to be the problem with most people who dislike them. They make judgements and never had one. Have you ever smelled a dog when they come in from outside or are wet? Obviously, David of Warrensburg, you have not. They stink!!

people who dislike cats are usually threatened by the cat's independent nature. this is indicative of an insecure person. a cat's love is earned. a dog will love anyone - even its abuser. a cat is a dignified creature that seems to threaten some people.

I've had dogs and cats; personally, I extremely disllike cats. They claw up all your stuff, knock down your vases, all of that. Dogs on the other hand dont.
