It was just past 12 a.m. early Monday morning in suburban Chicago when Baby's owners, Letitia Kovalovsky -- seven months pregnant with twins -- and her partner, Josh Omberg, were sleeping on a couch in their living room, reports the Chicago Tribune. Unbeknownst to the slumbering couple, a fire had erupted in the back bedroom where they normally slept. But Baby, their 13-year-old white, brown and gray tabby, immediately sensed the danger.
"The cat jumped on the [sleeping] homeowner and kept coming back, which was unusual," Carrie Ozog, a firefighter and paramedic with the Wonder Lake Fire Protection District, who was on the scene, tells Paw Nation. "The homeowner woke up and saw an orange glow. When he stood up, he saw the house was filled with smoke."
Firefighters racing to the scene saw the blaze from a block away. "The flames were shooting twelve feet high from the northeast corner of the house," says Ozog. The entire family, including Baby and a pet dog, were safely outside the house and unhurt.
Within fifteen minutes, the fire was under control, says Ozog. But everything in the bedroom, including baby items and two cribs in a front room were destroyed by the fire and smoke. (An estimated $115,000 in damage was caused and the couple lost about $60,000 worth of personal property, reports the Chicago Tribune.)
"The smoke detectors weren't working," Ozog tells Paw Nation, explaining that the cause of the fire was being investigated, but that it was not considered suspicious. "It was extremely lucky the couple were sleeping in the living room and not the bedroom. It could have been disastrous."
Meanwhile, Baby the hero cat disappeared from the scene a few hours later, possibly spooked by all the activity at the house, reports Northwest Herald. "Family members are searching for the cat and they'll let us know when they find her," says Ozog, adding that the Wonder Lake Firefighters Association is collecting donations of cash and baby items for the family.

You get dumped alot, considering you have been posting your useless story for several months. This site is for animal lovers. We don't care about you and your boyfriend. Find another site to pedal your story.
In regards to the cat, well, I hope you are found quickly, safely, and in good health. Way to go "Baby".
I always believed that animal lovers were compassionate, understanding and filled with love.It appears I was wrong Eileen. My animals always gave me unconditional love, unfailing support and taught me to pass them on to my 2 legged companions. As for Baby, maybe she was an angel sent to do one great thing and then move on.I wish her love and Godspeed on her journey.
Peggy Roby, Where have you been??? Don't you realize that those postings are nothing but lies and spam to get you to go to their undesireable web sites, which most likely contain trogans, spyware, adware, etc. That post appears on every message board, along with others that are similar. Didn't you wonder why they actually removed the post from this site??? Because it was nothing but spam/advertisment. It had nothing to do with the story. Before you leave your righteous comments to myself and Daisy, you should get your facts straight. Perhaps you should become more internet savy and be more aware of the scams out there.

There are so many lovely cats and dogs waiting in cages at animal shelters. ADOPT A PET! They give back your love and care with interest. They'll greet your friends, warn you of strangers, cuddle up and warm your heart. They won't gossip about you behind your back, abscond with your bank account, or jilt you for your brother or sister. And, given a chance, they just might save your life.
One time the valves on our gas drier broke and stuck open, and the flame inside the drier was burning the paint. Our sheltie knew something was wrong, went to the laundry room, saw that the drier was burning and started barking. A certain bark that meant something was seriously wrong. We went and checked, pulled the drier out and turned off the gas. In another minute the drier would have been on fire, then the house. Smart, good little dog. By the way, it was a Maytag drier, I suggest a different brand. Shelties are extraordinary dogs.
