Not long ago, Paw Nation talked to the author of a fun new book called "Am I Boring My Dog?" The book is lighthearted, but is packed full of useful information for pet owners who want to indulge and pamper their pooch while still being socially responsible.
The book covers topics ranging from why dogs make good pets and where you should get a dog to responding to folks who criticize the amount of money you spend on your four-legged friend. Looking for a dog-friendly job? This book helps you figure out how to make that happen, always in an amusing way.
This week, five lucky Paw Nation readers will win a copy of this fantastic book. Will it be you? All you have to do is leave a comment below to enter!

my male german shepherd mix takes forever to go potty. Is this normal?
In the social arena, I have a dog who does not like other dogs. I walk him on a leash. I've used all the recommended techniques to avoid confrontation with other dogs, but invariably, it happens. I yell to the other owner: "My dog's not friendly!" They often say: "But mine is!" I've used treats, jolly voice, walking the other way, everything. My dog is a wanna-be, but he won't let go in a confrontation. So--what to do for other guardians who insist on letting their dogs come close when I'm walking the other way?
When I walked our previous dog (she was a whippet mix), we would laugh & say it was a 6 pee & 3 poop walk (or whatever the numbers were). We would laugh & say toward the end that she was only doing a drop or two, because surely she didn't have anything left. This was for a normal--maybe 1 mile walk. With our new dog (they said she is a shepard mix, but she is fully grown at only 30 lbs.), she has never pooped (even though I carry my bags like a good little girl) & if she pees twice, it is noteworthy. What makes the difference?
My dog just turned 7 years old and all of a sudden he is interested in chasing cars.
He was on the leash the other day and without warning lunged at a car and actually 'hit' it. Why all of a sudden an otherwise 'balanced' dog would start attacking cars?
I always wants to know what my dog is thinking when she looks at me...? Love, hunger, pet me, leave me alone?
I adopted a handsome/ loving adult chihuahua from my local shelter 2 months ago. While is a great house-dog, he could use some training. How long should I wait, letting him get acclimated to his new home, before bringing us to dog-training school?
I have a chocolate lab that doesn't like people. She is very scared of them and has never been beaten or anything. My question is, "Why does my chocolate lab not like people?"
How can I get our 21 month old Beagle to stop eating not only her own poop, but her friends at the dog park as well? We have tried everything we can think of to get her to not do this, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Dr.s Foster and Smith have a product called distaste. You give it to your dog and it makes his or her stool very bitter, to deter them from eating it.
I always wonder if people love their dogs as much a Bull Terrier owner loves their dog. IMO, most dog owners love their dog and may be attached to a certain breed. However, everyone that I know that has ever had a Bull Terrier has never been able to live without one. We are truly obsessed and possibly medically ill. To us, nothing is better than a Bully walk with 20-30 other crazy Bull Terrier people.

My dog is 10.5 years old. He was injured shortly after I lost my younger female last year to cancer. So, I didnt really ever think he was fit enough for a new younger dog. He is always with me except for one hour trips to the gym each day. He is exhausted when we go out, we run down by the river a mile from my house twice a day or he comes to work with me, which is about an 11 hour day of activity(pet supply store with customer dogs in all day and resident cat plus rescue cats for adoption in the window. So, when we are home, he seems tired. But he always seems bored or anxious when I get up from the computer or from bed at night. I make sure he is outside as long as he can bear and we see at least 5-10 dog friends every day each walk. Is it just be being paranoid or is he anxious or bored even though he couldnt stand any more outside/play time? I mean, he even comes in the bathroom (very small) and lays while I shower. It could totally be my anxiety. But could it be his or him feeding off of mine?
Why does my german shepherd steals my slippers & my mothers slippers????
I have a toy poodle who has problems with his back leggs. He is from a puppy mill and is 6 3/4 months old. I am having a problem house trianing him. I trained another dog before from nine weeks old it didn't seem to be this hard. the puppy mill did not house train the puppy. Its made it very hard for me. I got him as he was turning 7 3/4 months old he will be 8 months at the end of January I got him before Christmas so I have had him for about a month. He is very hard headed male dog. I have a standard working poodle who is very well trained. I thuoght this would help it did with the last puppy I had. This dog just doesn't get it. I know he is smart. I work with my dogs. Having a working dog I know a little about them. But this dog has me at my wits end. Poodles are farely new to me. I have had a working poodle for a little over 3 years I was used to labs and shepards I know thoses dogs well. Poodles are a mistory to me. they are different than other dogs.
Does my dog feel frustration when she thinks I don't understand what she wants to do?
On rainy or cold days ny dogs stay inside. I cook soup bones for them & it'll occupy them for most of the day. I would be interested in this book as to what other things I can do as a responsible pet owner & foster mom (of dogs) of the local shelter. It sounds like a great book with a humorous side. Definitely has my attention! Thank you for the heads up on this book!!
I have a Boxer mix that goes through seperation anxiety whenever we leave him at home. He digs holes around our fence. any suggestions?
Do I make my dog feel diheartened?
Have two totally crazy, spoiled rotten dogs that are my replacement children. My human children are grown and on their own so they don't need their mom as much anymore. I would love some new ideas of how to entertain my pups. They love tug toys and play tug with each other all the time. But my lab generally eats and destroys the toys unless they are Kong toys. We've had the lab since he was 6 wks old but we've only had our Husky for 18 months since his previous owner died unexpectedly. I can't imagine my life without either one of them.
I got my 3 year old Golden Retriever from the local shelter about two years ago. Training has gone very well except at the front door. She still tries to bolt out when the door is opened and if she is gets past me, it's like a flash of lightening going by! She just takes off and runs. Sometimes I have to drive around for an hour to find her. I've done everything the "trainers" have suggested without success. Any ideas? Otherwise she's calm and sweet. (We do walk on leash every day with no problems.)
I have a miniature pinscher. Okay, I'll admit it; she's fat. How much food should I be feeding her to get her down to her perfect weight, 7 lbs? She doesn't even lose weight on those so called weight maintainance foods.
