We love stories about people finding new ways to help needy pets, so when we were contacted by Clarissa Jones about the Save the Dogs From the Chill Project, our tails got to wagging.

The Save the Dogs From the Chill Project takes donations of old sweaters and repurposes them for dogs in shelters, something that's particularly important this winter when temperatures all across the country are reaching record lows. Even the southern states are seeing below-freezing temperatures, and not all shelters have indoor areas for all their dogs.

You can keep tabs on the project's progress on their blog -- at the present moment, Jones tells Paw Nation, "We have received so many donations that boxes are starting to pile up to the ceiling. It's crazy! We want to try and have everything mailed out by the end of next week."

And, of course, you can send your own used sweaters (or check your local Goodwill to scoop some up on the cheap) to the address in this post. Come on, you're never going to wear that ugly Christmas sweater again, are you? Lend a paw to a dog in need!

This is not an article about kids. Kids can't eat sweaters, might as well give them to the dogs. Good grief!!

if we can afford to buy clothing for our beloved pets, we can also help the needy, AND WE DO! ( i think i can speak for most of our well dressed pet owners)

Dogs cannot help themselves so we humans need to help them. They are our responsibility. If you bring one home it is yours to take care of for it's life (food, vaccinations, shelter). The problem is that some humans think the puppy is cute but as they get older, some humans leave them to the streets to survive. They breed and create more dogs that cannot help themselves. They usually die or are picked up and destroyed. As for needy children...people need to be more responsible, if they were, we would not have hungry, deprived children. It all boils down to taking responsibility in everything we involve ourselves in.
I think this is a good project if it helps the dogs.

Dogs are people, too. The only difference is that they have fur and love unconditionally.

That is a great idea, we volunteer at shelters and I can say that we see a lot of small dogs shaking in there kennels huddled up together. so sad :-(

Great idea. Been pretty active in shelter work; just redid my will to leave it all to shelters (no kids or husband, my family certainly would never do this). Any chance someone can download instructions/patterns for those of us who sew? I'd be happy to do them at home, and send them completed.
