Pop-quiz time. What's the cutest animal? That's right, the giant panda. And what's the cutest thing a giant panda can be caught doing? No, I'm sorry; "sneezing" is only the second cutest thing. The correct answer: The cutest thing a giant panda can be caught doing is falling (literally!) asleep on its feet.

Tai Shan, the four-year-old panda in Washington's National Zoo, did just that last week. He tried fighting against the Sandman's spell, determined to stay upright, but eventually his drowsiness won out -- until his own forward momentum propelled him into a hilarious nap time somersault. Luckily for all of us, a zoogoer managed to capture Tai Shan's adorable clumsiness on camera, and shared her photos with the (UK) Daily Mail.

To #2,3,4,5,10 and 13 - you must be very frustrated with yourselfs in order to
leave comments as you did. Some of you speaking about dating, other's making rude comments. It saddens me to think that you are that unhappy with yourselfs that you cannot take in the beauty of what nature has to offer. I rather pity all of you... but won't waste my time telling you what you already know. Such a beautiful creature...my thanks to the person who was able to catch such a precious moment and share with the world...thank you!!!

there are only 1600 pandas left in the wild, i would urge everyone to consider joining a wildlife protection organisation, such as wspa or the wwf. it costs as little as £3.00 ( about $5.00 ) a month. for so little, it could do a great deal, hobbo, harwich, england.

Garion#17 Garion12-31-2009 @ 12:41AM

bill, u may b right about male animals licking their genitals, but the comment was inappropriate. give the poor bear a break. bsides, if u look in the first pic, its eyes are closed. no matter wat u say ppl will still think its cute so get over it. i must admit im one of them.

I did know different species of animals got along. I am surprised that different species can nurture one another. I will research how that's possible. Finally, I'm surprised that so many cubs are ignored by their big cat mothers. More research. Fascinating photos.
