As 2009 draws to a close, Paw Nation is taking a look back at our favorite viral videos of animals from this year. They're the clips you stumbled upon, friends forwarded or were even featured by big news outlets -- simply for being cute, ridiculous, eye-opening or hysterical (or all of the above).
Go ahead and treat yourself to a few minutes of fun by reflecting on these awww-worthy moments:
1. Tickling Slow Loris
Sonya, a Slow Loris owned by Dmitry Sergeyev, made her ascent to web fame at an ironically lightning-fast speed. The sluggish primate with saucer-like eyes and what appears to be a smile on her face lazes in pure bliss as she gets "tickled" in this clip. The popularity of the video lead to hundreds of thousands of Web viewers asking the same two questions: "What is that creature and where can I get one of my own?!" Well, we don't know where to get one, but we suggest you don't. They're illegal in the U.S.
2. Dog That Can't Roll Over
If this video were longer than 59 seconds, it would be cruel -- not only to the tiny, squishy pup featured, but to us viewers as well. The roly-poly Frenchie pup serves not only to make our hearts explode with maximum cuteness, but also gets a high ranking in the pantheon of baffling Japanese animal videos.
3. Pug Pushes Stroller
Stroller Pug is almost too good to be true. The video features Jenny the pug pushing her two "babies" throughout Portland, Ore. in a pink stroller outfitted with a parasol. That's right, the maternal pooch is standing on her hind legs and pushing the stroller in a bizarrely human manner. The footage coupled with a melancholy piano track creates farcical synergy that garnered the Stroller Pug thousands of views. Fans can even follow @JennyThePug on Twitter for occasional updates and priceless Twitpics of Jenny and her dolls doing seasonal tasks.
4. Baby Elephant Sneezes and Scares Himself
Sneezing animals often result in viral video gold (see: "Sneezing Panda"), but this little guy is like something straight out of a Disney or Hanna-Barbera cartoon. A group of lucky tourists in Africa captured the moment on tape, when a curious baby elephant startles himself with an entire trunk full of "achoo!"
5. Dog Cries When Soldier Returns Home
Most pet owners can relate to the excitement animals exhibit when reuniting with you after a long trip away from home. When Lt. Andrew, Gracie's owner, returns from duty overseas, the pooch is so overwhelmed that she wiggles and cries for joy in his arms. It's a tear-worthy moment.
6. What Your Cats Do While You're at Work
Here's a great clip for anyone who has ever wondered what your cats are up to all day long while you're at work, school or elsewhere. The answer: nada.
7. "Face-Off With a Deadly Predator
National Geographic photographer Paul Nicklen's expedition to Antarctica has been highlighted by his extraordinary photos, but this video account of his encounter with a leopard seal provided extra insight into what it's like to be face-to-face with wild animals -- and their never ending capacity to do what we least expect.
8. Turtle Has an Awesome Orgasm
Who knew that turtles could be such screamers? This video is totally creepy, hysterical and absurd all at the same time -- and generated tons of buzz over the summer when it went viral.
9. Sam the Koala Gets a Drink After Fire
When wildfires ravaged Australia last February, a firefighter stumbled upon a young koala who had barely survived the destruction and was suffering from badly burned paws. He rushed to aid the koala, who he named Sam, to give it water and attention while the moment was caught on tape. Sam became something of an animal celebrity and it turned out that he was really a she. Although Sam was taken to an animal rescue center and healed from her wounds, sadly she died in August during surgery for an unrelated illness.

A very recent addition to our batch, this footage of a kitten has been causing quite a stir in the past few weeks. And why shouldn't it? Have you ever seen an adorable tiny thing with reflexes that fast, or such a flawless look of surrender? Now here's to hoping that Attila the kitten will be able to keep up her routine as she ages.

The little bulldog pup can't turn over because his chest has flattened, probably from being raised on a hard surface. It is important to have lots of padding under these puppies until they are up on their feet to prevent this problem which restricts the expansion of the puppies lungs.

While most of you think this is cute, the poor puppy has a genetic condition common in Bulldogs PECTUS EXCAVATUM. Commonly called swimmer puppies, due to their flat chest and inability to walk properly, they "swim" to get around. Many do not survive without trearment. I hope the owners got some traetennt for the puppy and really hope no one breeds this dog!!.
