Last week, city council officials gave Falk and his family 30 days to remove their pet pig, Strawberry, from their home, Fox News reported. But Falk balked at the suggestion.
Falk, his wife and their young daughter plan to leave their rented home -- and they're taking Strawberry with them, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.
The town does allow one pet pot-bellied pig per household, according to the Sun Sentinel. But Strawberry is no petite pot-bellied. She's a Yorkshire pig, and at nine months old already weighs 300 pounds. As a full-grown porker, she'll tip the scales at 400 to 500 pounds and sport a seriously big pair of tusks -- attributes that led the town council to vote down the pig.
For Falk, the choice was clear. "How do you tell somebody to get rid of one of their animals? The pig is like one of our children," he told the Sun Sentinel.

| No way! I'll stick to dogs and cats, thanks. |

Not a cute comment, Kalvin. Crawl back in your cave like a good little boy. And to the rest of you, don't compare this ignoramus to a pig...it's an insult to the pig.
that was really uncalled for
To answer your queston Kalvin, its quite clear that its gotta be you!
First off that comment was uncalled for, Secondly I use to have a pet pot bellied big that was an indoor pet that was actually litter trained like a cat. She ate table scraps and of course was a smaller breed than a yorkshire pig, but pigs do make great pets. They are good with kids, and other animals. I'm sure if you got one from a pet store as my family did when it was a few weeks old you would fall in love with it.
So, Kalvin, do you fell better about yourself? Do you really need to insult a child to make your world a happy place?
We have Viatnamese potbelly pigs and they are the size of a med size short dog, full grown. They can be litter trained, taught to do tricks and much more. Some say they are smarter than some dogs. My aunt has one inside and she is doing great, besides tearing up her carpet from the rooting. But, me, personally I wouldn't have one inside. My husband *was* raising them and selling the piglets....
Yay!!!! It's so nice to hear a story where a family sacrifices to keep their pet. The shelters are full of animals because people can no longer keep them at their residences or are financially strapped. I know that not everyone can make such a sacrifice but it is so nice when someone does! Pets are like family and should be loved enough to make sacrifices for!
Shame on Kalvin for the cruel comment on the girl! She is no more than ten and besides that her weight is not the issue. Making such a rude comment about a child? Insensitive! Right on Reggie!!!!!!
I grew up on a farm. Our pigs were always well taken care of. HOWEVER, a pig when it gets older, can be a dangerous man eating animal. Happens several times a year when a man gets hurt in a hog lot and the well behaved friendly hogs eat him. We never went in a lot full of pigs without a weapon, ( hammer, steel bar, or even a shovel) I would never let my daughter have a full grown hog as a pet. Let the chimpanzee story be a lesson to you all.
Yeah I heard that once they get a taste for blood they can be real maneaters.....weird for such intellegent creatures....although sorta similar to humans i guess.....
This is ridiculous. I still live on a farm, with several pigs, and live in an area with other farmers. You story is an old wives tale.
People who pick on children are likely void of any redeemable qualities whatsoever. They are likely the ones sitting at home, alone, jobless, friendless, scouring sites to make ignorant statements and verbally assaulting those who may be unable to protect themselves from bullies. Take a look in the mirror, Kalvin, and think about it.
I'll bet that pig had better manners than a lot of children do today!
As a mother of two small sons, it REALLY bugs me how down people are on "children today", as they put it. It just... really bothers me. No one is perfect, but they seem to think it's okay for so-called adults to be immature and rude to the point of just POISON, but that kids... just shouldn't exist or something.
Children aren't perfect; neither are adults. That's what parents are for to tell them when they're doing something wrong and how to make it right, and not to do it again.
Re to: "That's what parents are for to tell them when they're doing something wrong and how to make it right, and not to do it again."
Therein lies the pickle. Many parents -- I'd say the majority -- don't bother to correct their children. They let them run around doing and saying anything they want. It's these types of undisciplined children that grow up to be rude and immature. Comments like Rose's aren't "downing" children -- they are downing the parents that are (not) raising them.
Even though I think they are really cute, I would not want a pig. I do think it's great, though, that this family is making accomodations to keep theirs. Some people believe pets are disposable and think nothing of "taking them for a ride" or dropping them off at a shelter. Great to see some responsibility!!
another xcample of govt in your private life
John, I too am against more government involvement in our everyday lives HOWEVER, there have to be laws and regulations to guide and control those that don't have sense enough to be responsible citizens on their own. Not to say that these people are in that category but unfortunately, those people do exist in society. I've got neighbors who train their dogs to be aggressive, starve the animals and then allow their dogs to run at large. The dogs chase people, destroy property and attack other animals. The welfare-grubbing, drug-selling idiots do nothing to control their animals and when someone calls animal control and the animal is carted off and put to death, these a$$es end up with yet another animal a few days later. The a$$es then get mad that someone has butted in their business.
Kalvin, Those cruel words will come back to haunt you one way or another. My question to you is shouldn't you be doing something CONSTRUCTIVE with your time? Or is picking on kids what you consider to be constructive? People like you are sick and heartless. My advice to you is GET A JOB. Find something to do - something PRODUCTIVE in society. You are a sad, sad person. I will pray for you.
I commend that family on their loyalty. Large animals need space and a farm would be perfect. As far as dogs, cats and bunnies, they are made for city living, except when their ignorant owners keep too many untagged and running around, disturbing the neighbors, at times frightening children. A cat is supposed to be an inside animal (per the adoption rules at the shelters) and it is safer and cleaner for the family that way. Dogs can be inside/outside, depending on the weather and how often they bark. If you live in some states and near a lake, especially a canal, the alligators love your pets. It happens all the time here.
Clearly, Kalvin, you are the pig, but wait, pigs are smarter than dogs, cats, or young children, so Kalvin, you couldn't be as high on the evolutionaly ladder as a pig, you can't even spell your name!!!
Oh' But they allow people to have snakes that they later turn loose and now have pythons 20 ft long in the everglades.
