After coming home, DeNicola put Ruby in the backyard to avoid confrontation with his other dog, Tiger. But DeNicola had his own confrontation to make. "At that point, I actually felt a kick and put two and two together and realized [Ruby] was pregnant," he told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. More likely, he felt a chorus line of kicks. Ruby soon gave birth to nine puppies.
Drowning in a sea of fur and cuteness, DeNicola called local shelters in Atlanta, but was unable to find one willing to take the puppies; all of the area shelters were already overcrowded. The best he could find was a place that would take them only if they were already vaccinated. Instead, he made a pen in his basement to house the pups, and has been caring for them ever since.
For now, DeNicola has no plans to keep Ruby or her puppies. He is taking them to get their shots this week, and he intends to find each one of them healthy, happy homes. If you are interested in adopting one of DeNicola's puppies, he gives his e-mail address in the original article. For now, we at Paw Nation commend this modest hero for helping an animal in need.

I pray they all find loving homes. And may you be blessed for taking Ruby home that day. Kudos to you Gary, you're an angel. The world needs more people like you!

hey this world definitly need more people like you.God will bless you for this deed,I pray that those puppies and their mom get a good home...was gna suggest wud it be possible for someone to get the mother and pups spayed(ie so they cant have puppies)to prevent unwanted animals in this world?
I have seen enough cruelty towards animals.Pls pls make sure they get good homes.I have just mpved here 3 weeks ago,and currently am not in aposition to adopt, also have 2 dogs.
i just cant believe the ppl in this world they just arent raised right i would never drive by and leave any animal on the road like that !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! your a good man Gary DeNicola they are so cute i wish there where more people in world like you !!!!
Thank God for for people like you Gary, I also would love to take one of the little fur balls home but I already have 1 recuse dog and 7 cats . God has a special place for people like you
Thanks for rescuing Ruby! I don't know how anyone could NOT. Please keep the puppies as long as you can. They are so cute!!
I want to say thank you also Gary. These type of stories give you hope! Hope they all find great homes.
Seems that if Ruby did have an owner they must have found out she was pregnant and didn't want to deal with the puppies. News flash for whoever threw Ruby out in her condition, if you have your pet spayed or neutered you won't have to worry about puppies. Some idiots view pets as throw away and that is why we have so many pets wandering around having litter after litter of unwanted puppies or kittens. Owning a pet comes with responsiblities and controlling the reproduction of that pet is just one of them.
Well, God Bless you Gary. They look like maybe Lab/Boxer? How adorable.
WHAT A GORGEOUS BUNCH OF PUPS! I commend this guy for doing what he did and I can only wish him the very best life has to offer. I would ABSOLUTELY LOVE one of those little babies..maybe 2! Unfortunately I work over 12 hours a day and have a weekend business. I hardly have time to date a woman!! Back when I was married I always had dogs; Belgium Shepard and at another time 2 rescued Greyhounds...boy were they ever a couple of goons! Totally hilarious to be with and so loving...I MISS all my babies!
That is what happen to me but someone dumped this dog in our neighborhood
and I felt sorry for her and took her in and my grandson just loved her. And at the time we didn't know she pregnant and couple months later she had 9 puppies to. She had 6 female and 3 males. Only could get rid of 2 of them. I had to finally give the rest of the puppies and the mother to animal control cause I couldn't feed all of them.
Donna, people who "get rid of" animals are not animal lovers; they're aholes. People who use that horrible phrase should NEVER be allowed to have animals. An animal lover (or even a humane non-animal lover) would say she tried to "find homes for" the pups.
Kudos to Gary for being so compassionate. HE is an animal lover, as am I (all of my 13 cats and dogs over the years have been rescues).
Donna, I understand. When life is hard and you have to choose between feeding yourself and perhaps your grandchild, or buying pet food and paying vet fees, what choice do you have? You didn't "get rid of" those two pups, you were successful in finding homes for them -- and thank God for that! You also did not "dump" the others; you took them to an animal shelter, thus giving them another chance. So bless you for all you did. You sound like a good-hearted woman.
Ohhhhhh they are so cute!! I come from a family of animal rescuers. My 2 cats, i rescued. My parents cats and dogs were rescued and same thing for my brother. I guess we're all softies at heart. Just recently, my parents rescued a little black kitten and my boyfriend adopted her to give his other cat a playmate.
Yep your a Hero but like the others I live in AZ to far away but how sweet of you to do this I myself worked for a IHOP resturant 12 years ago when a little boy was fixing to come threw the doors with a box full of puppys mix bread but was so cute I picked the runt of the bunch she fit in the plam of my hands way to small to be givin away at that time but I took her anyway and when my daughter saw her she said oh mom what a minnie dog So we named Her Minnie she was so small I forgot we had just had a car wreck and my husband would not be their to pick me up from work now I have this puppy that is so small how do I get her home I had put her under my blouse got on the bus no on even knowing I had a puppy on me got off the bus and went into the grocery store to pick up a couple of things for dinner that night well we still have her she is so spoiled I think she Minnie thinks she is Human I cant go any where in the house that she not right behind me I have a friend that comes over just to take her for a ride sence I cant drive he thinks its funny that she can step on the button to roll the car window down her self he didt belive me and his wife was,nt rolling down her window until I was over their house one day and she was with us well we stoped at their home (my friends for a mintue and when we got ready to leave her husband took Minnie out to the car with him he started the car and she rolled down the window Now he tells me and his wife to keep Minnie out of the drivers seat
This happens to people all the time to countless unsung heroes who never get the publicity that this guy is getting from these articles and often end up in over their heads when none of the shelters have room for the animals and the do-gooders can't find anyone to take the off-spring or the money to get all those animals spayed/neutered or immunized. Then, we end up reading about some of those would be heroes being raided and accused of being hoarders. What a difference it makes to start out with enough money and know-how to get the media to write articles advertising for you....and to be able to get all the neighbors to help you out also. Wow. Neighbors are not so helpful in all other cases...sometimes, they really don't like people who take in strays. All of this may sound harsh, but as an animal lover, I abhor the message this article seems to send without the reality check.
I already have 5 or I would take a couple of them. My husband would kill me if I took another dog. They are so adorable, but I also live to far away. Thanks for picking her up its people like you that we need more of in this world. I just hope the person who dropped her off has nightmeres for the rest of their lives.
Great job Gary! I hope you find great homes for all of them. I jumped into the bay here in NJ last Memorial Day to save a small dog. I ended up getting really sick from the cold water, but it was worth it and would do it again tomorrow. It is so nice to hear someone helping an animal, instead of all the horror stories we hear. Put more stories like Gary's on the news to inspire others. Way to go Gary!
KUDOS to AOL for putting this link on their website! Hopefully, with this publicity, homes can be found for all of these puppies! R
I am so glad there are such good people out there! Gary I wish you luck in finding homes, I found a stray kitten and know how hard it can be! Keep in touch with the SPCA, and other groups, the Humane Society?? Puppies should be easier than a grown dog, I have 3 rescue's and they are the absolute best, we will always have at least 3, if we had a bigger house we would definetly have more!!
