One of the many headlines Kate Gosselin made this past year had to do with the family dogs. Specifically, Gosselin caused some commotion in September when she adopted a pair of German Shepherds, then returned them to their breeder. (At the time, Kate said, "They'll come back, but for now I needed a break."
And in case she didn't make her feelings about the furballs clear from the start (In the video of the family getting the dogs, Kate states, "I could go my whole life without having a dog."), she's setting the record straight now.
In her TLC special that aired on Monday, Kate answered viewer questions, including some about the pooches. She said that she "never intended to give them back," but found that the dogs, Shoka and Nala, "needed more than [she] could give them," reports USA Today. In the end, it came down to choosing "between the dogs and the kids and the kids come first."
As sad as it is that the Gosselins weren't able to keep the animals they adopted, it's understandable that their children had to take precedence. The real tragedy is that a highly publicized television family brought home pets without thinking it through. Dogs, especially when they're young, require lots of time and attention. Is anybody actually surprised that this chaotic family wasn't able to properly care for two German Shepherd puppies?
Moral of the story: If your time is stretched thin already (like Kate's) and you don't really like dogs to begin with (ahem, again like Kate), perhaps you and your family should consider a lower-maintenance pet instead.

Kate should never have gotten the dogs since she obviously doesn't even have enough time for the kids with her continuing quest for publicity. Dogs are sentient beings, not toys to get and then discard when inconvenient to you. The breeder if they are a responsible breeder should not let her have any more dogs except perhaps a stuffed one!
I agree with the above comment from Cathy!
My daughter was watching their show on TLC. I always told her that KG is a bust out who's only claim to fame was having a bunch of kids. Any fool can lay on their back and get knocked up (pig). I am so sick of hearing about these people. She is now way a role model for any person in America to look up too. She is a pig who hopes to some day turn up on TV or in movies. I hope they both loose everything and she ends up back in the trailer where she grew up. TAKE THE SHOW OFF THE AIR AND STOP TALKING ABOUT THIS PIG.
it was probably jon that wanted the dogs in the first place
I AGREE WITH CATHY, KATE IS FOR ALL THE ATTENTION SHE CAN GET...AND SHE'S GETTING IT FROM THE INTERNET AND MEDIA IT IS A SHAME SOME PEOPLE CAN'T BE SATISFIED WHEN THEY SEEM TO HAVE IT ALL,MAYBE SHE NEEDS TO TRY LIVING FOR GOD.
Every young family gets to the point where they think they want to add a pet... a pet might have been good for the Gosslin kids...if they were a little older.
The breeder should be SHOT for selling two pups at the same time...additionally, as a Proffessional Dog Handler I can tell you that was NOT the right breed for them. Had they done a little more research or had a more ethical breeder who counseled them to which breed would have been more appropriate and they chose the RIGHT breed of dog...the family might not have had to give up their pet...it would have been a member of the family that they would never dream of getting rid of.
get a grip and stop banging on the woman. she wanted to please family, and was willing to put up with what new dogs demand, thinking all would work out. We all try to make the perfect decisions in life, but sometimes things just go sideways.
Can you imagine the pressure Kate's under --- from all sides --
as is Jon. I wished they'd both stay out of limelight, and the media would leave them the hell alone for awhile.
Actually, In one of the shows Jon was the one who brought up getting the dogs. Not Kate. Sorry but she did the right thing giving them back. Jon is off running around with young girls, and Kate has to hold down a house with 8 kids and 2 dogs? She decided the dogs would be better taken care of since she obviously has a full plate now that Jon decided to run around town acting like a douche bag.
First it was Jon, then the dogs. I'm guessing she's giving the kids up next.
She got rid of the dogs because she wanted to spite Jon. He wanted the dogs. She never liked having them. The kids have bonded with those dogs, it is very sad that she made this decision did she think how it will hurt the kids!!!!
I couldn't agree with your comments more. I feel sad for those kids and thankfully the dogs got out of there while they could still have a good life. That breeder is equally to blame.
This mixed up women should only get stuffed animals then she would not need to be bothered with them at all.
I agree, having dogs takes alot of time and care...what happens when the kids get to be too much? Is she going to try to give them back too? I love my dogs and they are part of my family giving them away would never be an option no matter the situation. You just don't give family members back!!!! How rude :(
I think Kate is an awesome mom. I think everyone should step back and look at the big picture she is a human being she has eight kids and how many of you can take care of eight kids without making a mistake here or there. On top of that who can take care of two puppy's. Not gonna happen at least she was responsible and brought them back to the breeder instead of a nasty humane society. I think everyone needs to leave this poor lady alone!
Jon is the pig. He couldn't take the hassle of raising 8 children so he walked away. How could she possibly take care of 8 kids, work, take care of huge house and two large animals. It was the best decision she made since she didn't really want them to begin with.
Today's news said Jon was having mantrums and was emotionally abusive to his girlfriend. Hm. So now he thinks he's great? I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.
I feel that Kate and Jon needs ro take lessons from the Dunggars. They have 19 children and they have not changed from day one plus that also have pets. Their children are very polite and they as parents are great. Kste an d Jon needs to watch their show and learn form it. I feel that both(especially Kate) Kate and Jon has let everything go to thie heads. Kate talks about Jon all the time and his faults but what about hers, especially when she was on the beach in that bikini with her guard. Is that anyway for a mother of eight to show off . My own children would have killed me for dressing like that in public and I don;t blame them. The appreance that you show of yourself to others will follow you all of your life. I think that they both need to get themselves and their children in church and God's work.
I agree, she never liked taking care of her kids when they were sick or made a mess, much less a dog. She is all me, me, me, me
and her true colors are going to come shining thru in the not to distant future
What's wrong with changing your mind. Has anyone ever thought it was for the good of the dogs that Kate returned them? So what, she didn't realize the effort and attention having a pet would involve and she did what she should have done---return them. Get a grip. I feel very sorry for her going through such public scrutiny everytime she opens her mouth or responds to anything.
I am SO sick of hearing about this woman. Thankfully, I had never heard of her until about a month ago, and now I wish the media would find someone else.
On the good side (trust me I don't like what I see of Kate) at least she gave them back to someone who will find them a good home instead of abusing or neglecting them
however she should haven't gotten them in the first place for both her sanity(what little she has) poor kids, they wont forget this and hopefully the dogs will find better home
