Miniature dogs, like micro-pigs, are small, compact and too cute for words. From the Miniature Schnauzer to the Miniature Dachshund, these mini pups may be smaller in height and weight, but their personalities are undoubtedly full-scale.

Anyone looking for a dog from the shelter, check out the Tupelo Lee Humane Society, in Tupelo, Ms. We have so many dogs of all kinds that need good loving homes.I love all animals, especially the ones that aren't taken care of. They need love and a good home too.

People need to realize that minature or "teacup" sized dogs are NOT recognized breeds...they are just runts that are bred to other runts to keep them small in size. For example, people walk around with "teacup" yorkies that weigh no more than 3 or 4 lbs,but an average yorkie can weigh between 7 and 10 lbs!!!! Also,if you are going to get a dog, don't forget to check out rescue groups as well as pounds and shelters for your new pet. If you MUST buy a puppy, get it from a reputable breeder, not a pet store....pet store puppies often come from puppy mills and backyard breeders

Faith,

I have 5 Miniature Schnauzers. All of them are recognized and registered through the American Kennel Club. There are other miniature breeds that are recognized by them too. You should check out the facts before posting false items.

I too lost my AKC Registered Miniture Dachshund very recently. Micky left her paw prints on my heart. She was my best friend and not a day goes by that I don't miss her. I find it insulting that because she was a miniture you don't think she was worthy of being registered. You need to get your facts straight before you write something like that. How would you feel if someone were to question your dogs right to being registered.

I am quite offended there was no mention of Yorkies! I have my 4th Yorkie and this time we rescued a YorkiePoo. They are Lions in little tiny dog bodies! Nothing and I mean nothing gets close to my house without her letting me know! At just over a year old she rules the house over our Golden Retriever and Cocker/Bichon/Poodle cross!

I am too an avid animal lover. My little p-nut rules the roost! He is a 2.5 pound chihuahua. And he is also registered!!!! I feel ill 6 years ago and didn't know if I would pull through. I spent most of my time in the hospital and when I did come home, the greetings I got from him were second to none. If I am at the computer, he is right there under my feet or in my lab. The disease that I have makes me sleep most of the day and unfortunately it keep me in a lot so most of my friends have drifted away but p-nut here is old faithful he doesn't care if the steroids blow me up. Or if the morphine keeps me down he is hear for the long hall. I love him so much, life wouldn't be much without him. By the way I suffer from Sarcoidosis.

About about six weeks ago, a veterinarian I know brought me a 2 lb.Min Pin who was half starved and had a skin infection. She had been a stray. Today, she weighs in at 4#, 4 oz, and is robust and healthy. She has learned her name (Lily), housebroke in three days, heels, comes when called, down, and stay. She stubbornly refuses to sit, but we're working on it. I'm 72 and not in the best of health, but I'm walking more and I have met more people in the past six weeks that in the previous 11 years.
Lily has made a huge change in my life, and brings me much happiness. I've always had large dogs (Great Danes) and she has as much spirit as the big dogs. She has a fan club. It just tickles me when a car pulls over and a total stranger tells me she's adorable.

This is my first time doing this.....but i could not resist telling you all about mariah. she is a akc registered old english mastiff. her mother was 180lbs, her dad was 220lbs. she is 96 lbs as of yersterday. she was the runt, the oops, the less than what the breeder was wanting. their reputations for constant perfection in their breeding records are sooooo important to them. God brought mariah into my life after my "sadie" had lived her years and passed. she was also an oops. a different breed, but an oops just the same. i have had mariah fixed. i have had numerous offers from people wanting a 1/2 sized mastiff. go figure...........at full price for a perfect standard sized mastiff. nope. she's got the perfect laid back personality of the breed. yes...she drools....owell. at any size.....lets love them all, treat them well........and for the importance of proper classification.......whats in a name after all.

I have 2 yes 2 Doxies and love them to life. They rule my house and my grandkids. I swore when my mix snauser and whatever died there would be no more dogs but I lied. I stopped on the side of the road and fell head long into a relationship with the RUNT of the litter that no one else wanted. $250.00 for a no paper dog. Nope I said 25 and I got this barrell of love and protection you would not believe. He is 8 months old and now he has a little brother 4 months old. to play with and love 2 fold in our house. Little brother has papers to be had but not important to me as I have all I want from them. LOVE and PROTECTION from to little Badger hunters. Yeah they were bred to hunt badgers, their name means badger hunter. Go figure small and terrible. Oh Yeah their names are Rascal and Rowdy. Beautiful little dogs

I am pleased to read there are people out there looking out for these lovely creatures! Every animal (especially dogs & cats) need protecting from the nasty lugnuts in this world. Unfortunately these animals are often the object of abuse and most people say nothing and do nothing. I am a small petite woman and I have gone after big lugnuts that have attempted to "beat up" their own dogs. I am so amazed by others that just stand there. I do it for little kids too. I too believe in obtaining dogs from the shelters or rescue groups. People don't realize how many are out there and often put to sleep just because there are too many.

Although I've grown up with, and absolutely love, larger breeds of dogs, I don't mind the miniature breeds. While I currently own a husky/chow mix, my mother owns two mini dachshunds, and my little sisters own one of the puppies that came from the pair. The small dogs certainly have quite the personalities, and are great for people who cannot house a big dog, but want a dog that thinks it is bigger than it really is. Trust me, my mom's mini dachshunds certainly think they're big dogs, especially when around mine.
