No Jessica Simpson interview is complete these days without an inquiry into the much-publicized loss of her Maltipoo, Daisy. The five-year-old dog, a gift from her then-husband Nick Lachey, was taken by a coyote one month ago and is now presumed dead.

"Daisy meant the world to me," the star told UsMagazine.com. "I hold her memory very, very close. It was an unfortunate thing what happened. That I don't have her every day... it's a very hard thing to talk about."

Will Simpson get a new dog? "I haven't really thought about another dog yet, but maybe sometime," Simpson continued. "[Daisy] would want that."

Betsy Rosenfeld, author of "The Complete Single's Guide to Being a Dog Owner: Choose the Right Breed, Train Your New Pup, Balance Dating and Dog Duties, Find Doggy Daycare and Travel With Your Dog," weighs in on Simpson's sad situation.

"I feel so much for Jessica Simpson," Rosenfeld tells Paw Nation. "Daisy was a constant source of unconditional love for her. To not have that enduring companionship is devastating."

Rosenfeld understands the misplaced guilt of moving on: she adopted a new dog 8 days after her 13-year-old Labrador retriever mix, Bella, died in March from bone cancer. "I felt like I was cheating on Bella," says Rosenfeld. But she consoled herself with the thought that she was giving her new rescue dog, Ranger,a shot at life.

Perhaps when the time is right, says Rosenfeld, Simpson can do the same. "You're not going to love your new dog the same way, but you shouldn't expect to," says Rosenfeld, offering other helpful tips:
  • Don't rush into getting a new dog.
  • Think about what kind of dog you want.
  • Don't try to recreate your dog by getting a new pet that looks exactly like your old dog.
  • Try not to compare your new dog to your old one. That wouldn't be fair to your new dog.

I don't know how anyone could have made jokes about this. The way that happened was horrific! I can't even imagine experiencing that!

i agree. so sad that people would take advantage of a loss like this against the person. Jessica had and took care of Daisy for five (5) years, that is a credit to her character. Some celebs buy and get rid of pets so quickly when they see the work involved and they have the same resources, or more than Ms. Simpson. She loved her dog and feels a huge void in her life. As this is the closest thing right now that she has had to unconditional love, she misses it and I get that!
