What makes the birth even more special is that despite the white poodle's lack of pigment, all eight of her puppies have full coats of black hair. The litter of four male and four female pups was the first for Rosie, whose full name is Sukanto My Fair Lady, writes the Doncaster Free Press.
Rosie's owner, a retired nurse named Carol Marsden, delivered the first three puppies at home before Rosie's breeder arrived to help for the remainder of the seven-hour delivery. The eight puppies take after their father Alfie, a black pedigreed poodle whose official name is Kertellas on Easy Street at Montravia. The boy pups have been named Duke, Leo, Shadow and Victor, and the female puppies Belle, Duchess, Lucy and Tess.
It may seem like a unique feat, but Joan McFadden, a member of the Poodle Club of America and the Delaware County Kennel Club in Pennsylvania, explains to Paw Nation that the occurrence "is not terribly unusual."
"I've had that happen," McFadden tells Paw Nation. "I had a white champion poodle give birth to eight black puppies when she was bred with a black male poodle and it was kind of amusing to see." McFadden, who's been breeding poodles since the 1980s, knew it was a possibility because her white poodle had a black poodle in its lineage, and the black male poodle had a white poodle in his lineage.
"It makes for awfully cute pictures, I'll tell you that," laughs McFadden. We'll say!

I had a black toy poodle Lexi whom gave birth to 5, 1 Whte and 4 black, the daddy was black also ! In doing reserch I found out that the father of the male was white named Casper!

Beautiful standard poodle, darling little pups, how sweet! Funny how some people want to whine & complain about breeders & say "stop breeding". Hey, I'm all for adopting a pet from humane society, but there is a place for protecting the breed too - we all have the freedom to choose!
Yup, you DO have the freedom to choose whether or not to breed animals. But these animals don't have a choice. That's the problem with the animal overpopulation problem, it was created by the human race's ignorance. For every homeless animal to have a home in this country, each PERSON would have to own 6 dogs and 9 cats. See the problem now? Millions of animals are euthanized every year, so you can have your status symbol breed and walk around telling everyone how much you paid your dog. Breeds were necessary when dogs worked and needed certain traits to perform a certain task, but now most dogs are simply pets and those traits are not "needed" but merely desired. So, go ahead, breed and buy from breeders. But while you're "protecting a breed" thousands of animals are dying every day.

Cats and dogs were here before humans, and we did not teach them how to breed, so i fail to see how we caused their overpopulation.
Sure, too many animals without homes, but many more kids without homes. Why? People are animals and breed without a thought-HAve parents who bring kids into this world then abandon them, either through, neglect, D&A abuse and leave the home-get THEM FIXED-no seconds chnaces-the state pays for their care anyway. Look at all the foster homes and residential centers and juvenile detention centers all over the country-maybe if we force humans to be responsible about bringing babies into the world, then we're more likely to be successful with smart four-legged animals, after all they stay with their young-adults take them from their parents, to sell and profit, kind of like drug user parents.

Where do youn get that? Do the research, Poodles are a German dog, they were used for hunting. I hope that ignorance is bliss in your case.
The Standard poodle was bred to RETRIEVE water foul, not hunt.
I had a buff colored cocker spaniel that gave birth to an all female litter the first time and an all black litter the second. Not too unusual.
A quote from the story states: "McFadden, who's been breeding poodles since the 1980s, knew it was a possibility because her white poodle had a black poodle in its lineage, and the black male poodle had a white poodle in his lineage." What a ridiculous statement for a breeder to make! Anyone who knows ANYTHING about even the most basic genetics laws knows that this is "possible" no matter what the lineage is, because the sire has black fur. Black fur (or hair) Is genetically dominant over white fur. The only way it would NOT be possible for Rosie to have 8 black pups would be if the sire was also a color other than black, and neither dog had ANY black dogs in their lineage. Though genetically very unlikely, it is "possible" for 2 white dogs to produce 8 black puppies, providing at least one of the parent dogs had a black dog somewhere in their lineage. One would think that an animal breeder would certainly know more about the field of genetics than the quote indicates.
You are partially correct. In dogs, black is dominant and white is recessive. It is possible for two black dogs to produce white pups if both carry the recessive genes for white. If either has only genes for black, all puppies will be black although some of these black puppies will be able to produce white if they happen to inherit the white recessive gene. It is not possible for two white dogs to produce black pups. Since black is dominant, it is not possible for a white dog to have the black gene. It the dog has one gene for black and one for white, it will be black. The only way the dog can be white is to carry both recessive white genes. If you cross two white dogs, it is impossible to get black pups because neither dog carries the black gene.
In this case, I suspect the male was a dominant black, meaning he had both genes for black. In such a case, his puppies will all be black because each will inherit the black gene from him. If this dog were a black with a white recessive, it is likely (but not certain) that some of his pups would have inherited his white gene and would have been white because the mother had only the white gene to pass on.
One final though, even though all the pups in this case were black, they all carry the white recessive gene they inherited from their mom.

Don't be an ass Buddy. Everybody who reads post #1 knows exactly what the message is intended to read. Shelters are way over run with pure breds and mutts of all kinds not to mention the cats and kittens also.But people keep on breeding their dogs and the whole world knows its just for pure profit. Puppy mills, kitten mills and the like will one day be stopped. and no-- the breeds wont die out if this is all done responsibly and regulated.
