Dog with tattoo's picture

"Does this tat make me look fat?" Photo: Pet Science Labs

Remember when you were a pretty young thing, bristling on the edge of tween awkwardness and teenage... awkwardness?

Nothing decimates the wide-eyed innocence of childhood quite like the first time a prepubescent waltzes into a novelty store lined with blacklight posters and clip-on belly button rings. It's here that every child realizes they have the chance to develop an attitude, a persona -- via a rub-on tattoo.

Well, now that same experience has gone to the dogs.

Described as a "safe, fun, and non-toxic [way to] give them the voice they always wanted," the Petattoo is a soft rubber foam stamp that gives your pup the same chance to brand himself a "Lil' Devil," "Butt Sniffer," or "Poop Machine," as you may have once done yourself. Replete with an ergonomic handle meant to make the stamps "easy to use" (although, really, how hard could it be?), the reusable Petattoos come off easily with just water and paper towel, promising Fido's humiliation be only a temporary.

Just be careful; the next thing you know, your pooch will be coming home way after curfew.

Ridiculous! What's next...a nipple ring? Dogs HAVE a voice...they bark. You said it near the end about "Fido's humiliation." If I was that dog, I'd bite the idiot who put these things on me.

Jo#2 Jo9-05-2009 @ 8:40AM

This is why I don't read the news................What is the world coming to?????????? We live amongst IDIOTS>>>>>>>>>>>>

LOVE YOUR PET........GOD GAVE HIM TO YOU SO THAT YOU MIGHT WOULD KNOW WHAT UNCONDITIONAL LOVE IS........so you return this love with the pain of a tattoo and the disrespect to his beautiful coat............

WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?????????????????????????

suezbele#3 suezbele9-05-2009 @ 9:53AM

Okay, you must not have read the story, it's a foam stamp that you "tattoo the dog with a type of ink. They don't actually tattoo the dog. It's like a fake rub on tatto

katzeye#4 katzeye9-05-2009 @ 11:22AM

Why are you reading about it! If you don't like it, stop reading about it. You people amaze me! Seems to me your the true IDIOT here!

For Jo (#3)

LADY! LADY ! LADY !!
.....GET A GRIP !!!

This stupid tatoo did NOT hurt the dog, it is simply painted on it's fur! Didn't you read the article before you went off into a rage?

Please calm down, read the article, and then make another comment after you have settled down a bit.

I would never give my little darling a stupid "tatoo" like they are showing just because it's a dumb thing to do - in my opinion. Some might think it's too cute to go without - fine with me, but please remember the painted on tatoo does NOT hurt the pet unless they use toxic paint and it makes the pet sick of course. Otherwise, who cares? Why do you care so much to go off half cocked and say some really idiotic things? Come on lady.

Juliechar#7 Juliechar9-05-2009 @ 8:54AM

Jo,

Before you go ranting about the idiots of the world, you may want to read the article first. It is a soft foam rubber stamp with non-toxic ink that wipes off with water and a paper towel. The dogs wouldn't even know it's there. While it may be silly, if it makes a few people chuckle or smile in this world of cynicism, then I'm all for it.

ycav4424#8 ycav44249-05-2009 @ 3:42PM

I am all for it too, it's funny and doesn't hurt them. It just adds to their entertainment value.

Angiebaby#9 Angiebaby9-05-2009 @ 9:23AM

The tat may say "Devil Dog," but the look on its face says "Momma told me there'd be days like this."

cathy#10 cathy9-05-2009 @ 9:46AM

Really! I thought that giving male dogs prosthetic testicles to ensure they didn't miss the ones they were born with was overstepping the boundary of what a dog requires for health and what insecure owners require to keep their human ego intact. Then, owners began asking for oversized fake ones so that their chihuahuas' genitalia could hang down to the floor. Funny, right? If you are surrounded by your drinking buddies, all of whom are insecure about their own naughty bits! Now we have to take it one step further...trust me, the only reason a dog would sit still for such goofiness is because dogs who love their masters will tolerate such crazy stuff to make their human happy. Sad when a dog's innate behaviors end up making more sense than their human's behavior choices. What other pet would tolerate such goofy stuff to please their human? Grow up, folks--and don't get a dog as a pet until you can appreciate them for the qualities that have drawn humans and dogs together for millions of years. It is a dog's unconditional love and trust in their owner that makes them lie down and be still while craziness such as this is inflicted on their bodies. A dog can't consent to this procedure. Let them be dogs!

My God who cares!!!!!!!Are people that out of touch with the rest of the worlds problems as well as the one's in there own lives that what a dog is wearing has some relevance to anything.

R. Wood#12 R. Wood9-05-2009 @ 11:38AM

Lighten up! There is enough hate, chaos and pain in this world that it needs to be escaped for a few minutes.
The person that thought this one up obviously has more money than brains but, they did not hurt the dog.

Jeanne Y#13 Jeanne Y9-05-2009 @ 10:13AM

Stupid, stupid, STUPID!!! I wouldn't spend hard earned money like that, that is just plain STUPID! My dog only likes to be dressed up when she knows that she's going on a Therapy Dog visit, she'd hang her head in shame wearing some stupid temporary tattoo like a little kid gets out of a Cracker Jack box!

CD#14 CD9-05-2009 @ 10:14AM

Forget the damn tattoos and take the dog for a WALK!!!! Novel concept there!

Chip#15 Chip9-05-2009 @ 10:32AM

Tattoos are absurd. What's worse are breeders who have their dogs' vocal cords cut to suppress their voices--so they can run their businesses without complaints from neighbors.

It's called devocalization, and it's more common than you think. An Act Prohibiting Devocalization, House Bill 344, would ban this barbaric practice in Massachusetts--IF it passes.

The local American Kennel Club affiliate is fighting this humane legislation. So is the local chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Assn., which claims severing vocal cords should be allowed "as a last resort to manage barking."

Ca-ching! Unnecessary surgery directly benefits vets who are callous enough to perform this procedure--and AVMA must have members who are!--and enables breeding enterprises. Humane solutions, like caring for and training a pet responsibly and compassionately, don't line their pockets at all.

Live in Mass.? Call the State House to find your legislators. Urge Beacon Hill to pass An Act Prohibiting Devocalization without revision!!

Wash-off tattoos are temporary. Vocal cord mutilation is forever.

This is hysterically funny. The dog doesn't care because it's getting some loving attention from it's family. Life is short---------laugh as much as you can. It's really healthy and lowers blood pressure. By the way, My daughter and I (2 seperate houses near each other) have 5 catas, 4 dogs, 3 miniature horses 1 Quarterhorse, and a dougble yellow-headed parrot that talks and sings, much to our delight.

robin#17 robin9-05-2009 @ 11:13AM

i have to agree with julie char. my thoughts exactly. life DOES have enough (too much) negativity. this is harmless and if it gives people a chuckle go for it. It will prob. make fido happy too, hes going to get more attention. Now about prosthetic testicles? i didnt know they existed. and i would prob. have a different view on that....

Nancy#18 Nancy9-05-2009 @ 11:36AM

The owner of this dog is killing it by allowing it to be so overweight. If the dog is too old or infirm to exercise properly or if you can't or won't take the dog outdoors to exercise than you have to cut back on the chow and never give treats from the table. If you love your dog keep the excess weight off just like people.

The article didn't specivically say, but I suppose the ink is of a type that won't hurt the dog if eaten. Every dog I ever had would lick that tatoo until it was gone. I'm sure this "tatoo" would attract the dogs attention.
