Jean Hetherington has been breeding and showing bulldogs since 1964. She's also been an American Kennel Club judge for over 20 years. She first became interested in bulldogs when she and her husband, who had one as a child, bought one for his family. After a month, Jean was won over and wanted one for herself. "Their personality is like no other," she told Paw Nation." They are entertaining, stubborn, comical and just fun to live with."

Hetherington -- who recently won the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship Non Sporting Group Breeders award -- generously agreed to answer our trivia questions about this fascinating breed. See how well you do!

On the subject of Bulldogs, Mrs Hetherington stating their Personality is like no other. I had 2 English Bulldogs Maggie whom I lost to lung cancer this past year she was short 3 months of her 10th birthday and my Madison whom I lost this year to a heart attack he was 10 yrs old. She is correct in saying the above as truly nothing else like them in the world a "Unique Breed".

Some never stop cycling, some become less frequent (maybe once yearly) and others may stops be early old age (10-12 years).

I have had English Bulldogs now for 11 years. My bulldogs came from different breeders and because they were a bit longer legged than some, they were consdered Old Englsh Bulldogs while the ones that have slightly shorter legs are considered just Englsh Bulldogs. Supposedly when Americans started breeding them they liked the stockier, shorter legged, larger head bulldog and that's when they changed from the "old". Has anyone heard about this before?

Samantha the only thing I can say further on the English Bulldog is they are just great companions they are smart teach them to do all kinds of things except mine could not swim and I believe most of them cant as their legs are so short body stocky cant keep afloat. They do have a bit of medical problems but alot of animals have different issues. I dont think you could go wrong by getting one and you will understand what I am saying of how wonderful, fun and Unique they are.
