There are folks who put bandanas on their dogs, and folks who dress their dogs up for Halloween. Some folks put sweaters on their dogs in the winter. Some folks enter their dogs in dog shows. Depending on your outlook, these things might be cute, or they might stretch the boundaries of good taste. And then there's "creative poodle grooming," which surely stretches the boundaries of good taste, snaps those boundaries mercilessly, and then charges far, far beyond those boundaries.

Check out these pictures captured by photographer Ren Netherland from Creative Grooming Shows across the U.S.

This is just wrong to do to these poor dogs.

Leigh#2 Leigh8-26-2009 @ 5:31PM

How long did these poor pets have to endure this make-up application? I think it is really cruel

tewa007#3 tewa0078-26-2009 @ 4:25PM

Oh please, it's so gosh darn cute and very FUNNY!

Judi#4 Judi8-26-2009 @ 4:24PM

I would NEVER subject my dog to the poisons in coloring. I consider this abuse, the same as putting makeup and hairspray on a 6 year old child to parade around.

Lisa#5 Lisa8-26-2009 @ 4:39PM

You can't generalize all coloring as poisonous... kool-aid is poison now? I've seen tons of people dye their dogs with kool-aid. Big deal. I've never heard of a dog dieing from people dying their fur before. The dog doesn't know the difference.

I personally would only ever use kool-aid. I don't think what we humans use on our hair is safe for the dogs. I dyed my malamutes white fur (she's black and white) with red kool-aid to be a little zombie dog. She loved it and never knew the difference. And damn did she smell good when we got home, lol.

You are kidding, right? I have a dog, and I have a six year old, and I love them both, but I can tell you -- they are nothing alike -- and I don't love my dog the same way or nearly as much as I love my child. A dog is a domesticated animal - you can like it or not, but we use them every day. We use them as pets. We don't love our dogs like we Love our children, not even close, and the only people who think that is the case are the ones who have never had children. People who compare dogs to people are just off the edge. I'm not saying that animals don't need our protection, they do. But please, can you grow up just a little --.please.

It's hard to believe anyone would want to do this to their dog. This is a fine example of a dog owner screaming for attention through their dog and it's really no different than stage mothers living vicariously through their kids.

As long as NO HARM is done to the animals and they are COMFORTABLE (no restrictive clothing, shoes, etc) this is CUTE!! Do you really think the dog cares that he looks more like a panda than a dog? All dogs want is LOVE and ATTENTION!! And they certainly seem to be getting plenty of that!

Andrew Lochner#9 Andrew Lochner8-26-2009 @ 4:29PM

i think its just wrong to do this to a dog or any other pet.

amanda#10 amanda8-26-2009 @ 4:31PM

it doesn't know. it's just dyed. big deal..

Bob#11 Bob8-26-2009 @ 4:32PM

I don't like it but it looks like a creative outlet for someone who's bored. The dogs probably like the attention.

kbe#12 kbe8-26-2009 @ 4:33PM

Where is PETA when you need them?

non ya business#13 non ya business8-27-2009 @ 3:54PM

these people really need to get a life...... and i think this is cruelty to animals......animals were not meant to have there hair dyed....anyone who does this to there dog need to be hog tied and beat......lol

Erin1283#14 Erin12838-26-2009 @ 4:34PM

What. The. Heck.

Katie#15 Katie8-26-2009 @ 4:36PM

Just my little two cents. Pet dying has NO chemicals. There -is- a vegetable base dye for animals that washes out in about a week's or so time. Most groomers have this product now and even some vet offices. As I remember, it was a recent developed product and extremely safe. Even when consumed.

Kahalapo#16 Kahalapo8-26-2009 @ 7:42PM

I think it's cute.I do not think it is humiliating. It's all in the eye of the beholder anyway. Different strokes for different folks.
I have a Cat named Popokie & he was abused before we adopted him & his tail was ripped off. I have the groomer wash, cut his fur so that he will be comfortable in the summer & keep my white chairs clean, anyway the groomer gives him a lion tail look. It really gives him the PRIDE look. So, don't knock it until you are there!

anne#17 anne8-26-2009 @ 4:44PM

This looks like animal abuse to me. Subjecting these poor dogs to these dyes all over their bodies can't be healthy for them, and most of these dogs look miserable. The process they have to go through of being dyed, poked, braided, and prodded is at the very least uncomfortable, not to mention having to be burdened by annoying and in some cases restrictive clothing. It's troubling that people could have such disregard for their animals.

Brenda#18 Brenda8-26-2009 @ 4:54PM

cruel....i wouldnt even dress my kids this way!

ANDREA#19 ANDREA8-26-2009 @ 4:40PM

HONESTLY DO YOU THINK THE DOG KNOW WHAT HE LOOKS LIKE OR EVEN CARES GET REAL PEOPLE. MY DOG WOULD LOVE ALL THE ATTENTION AND EVEN GETTING FIXED UP.

Lisa#20 Lisa8-26-2009 @ 4:42PM

Eh, I dunno that I'd use any kind of chemicals on my dog. Kool-aid is fine, but to go so far as to use on the dog what we use on OUR hair... I think that could damage a dogs skin/fur. Those things aren't meant to be used on dogs.

But if there is some kind of safe animal friendly dye... sure. Go ahead. I don't know that I'd do it everyday, but for Halloween maybe sure. The dogs don't know the difference and they do crave attention 24/7. Just giving them what they want I suppose.
