Talk about hogwash! Photo: Fame Pictures
Bunches of feral pigs have become a common sight on the island of Big Major Spot in the Bahamas. Friendly and cute, the gregarious pigs have locals and tourists going hog wild when they decide to go for a swim. We guess there's no need to roll around in mud and filth in order to cool off when you live on the shores of a crystal clear sea. The sight of swimming swine is so entertaining that the piggies are becoming a tourist attraction in and of themselves.
The people keep the pigs coming back for more too. "Because locals bring food, the pigs will run into the water and actually swim out to the oncoming boats," underwater photographer Eric Cheng told the UK's Daily Mail. "It is strange enough to see pigs laying around on tropical beaches of white sand, but to see them charge into the water to greet oncoming boats is just bizarre."
Cheng and his team -- who had come to the island to photograph sharks and stumbled upon the porcine phenomenon quite unexpectedly -- took to the sea for a special photography session with the snorkeling porklings. The pigs had no problem cozying up to the camera; they're real hams!

those pigs are ugly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Swine Flu, anyone?
They are beautiful. I was there it's an amazing sight to see. I was in such awe. i just wanted to touch them all over.
You're so shallow, even with freakin' animals
Whoa! Or, at least, oink! I've heard of a pig in a poke, but never a pig in a port! I must admit that this is intriguing enough to want to "sea" for myself...
Delightful, Sharon. Thank you for your light-hearted comment.
"They're real hams" lmfao
I`d be willing to bet it won`t take the sharks long to discover them either........hopefully not, but bet so
I have been sailing to Big Major's Spot for a dozen years and have seen the pigs there every time. Most cruisers call the beach where the pigs live as "Pig Beach".
Mikey....a strange bond to an animal..? Very weird comment. Considering yo mama love even you!
Most normal people love dogs and cats dumbass...and don't friggin eat them.
I've seen "porkers" on the beach before, but not this kind!
We were surprised to see a huge pig swimming toward our dinghy years ago while anchored at Big Major. Not realizing that it was just greeting us and hoping for a handout, we left in a hurry.
They have been an attraction for years now on more than one island in the Bahamas. In response to the sharks, most of the sharks in those waters are Nurse Sharks, very docile.
What island??? I'm familiar with the Bahamas, and have never heard of Big Major Spot island.
Big Major is in the Exumas, near Staniel Cay.
The Islands of Staniel key are where the pigs are and let me tell you they are awesome.
cute yea till they grow the tusks that all feral pigs grow, and rip some dummie apart because they dont have some food for them, and i bet their poop all over the beach is a real pleasure also, eliminate them before they become a hazard
You sound like a Sarah Palin fan...."Kill it, Kill it!!"
You are right, Mike! Poop and aggression can sure mess up a vacation not to mention being seriously injured. Don't feed wild animals!!! Look at Yellowstone! Round them up, sterilize them and let them live out their lives in a humane situation or slaughter them, sell the mean and use it to clean up the environment that they have probably done great damage to.
Wow man let's do it- kill everything till the world is rid of anything that inconveniences you! Yea!
