Many, pushed out of their homes or jobless, are having to make the tough decision about whether they can afford to keep their furry companion. To help alleviate some of the burdens, New York's Animal Care & Control has set up the Safety Net Program.
The program offers low cost temporary pet boarding or foster homes for those forced to move without their pets, low cost vet care so no one has to decide to euthanize rather than treating their pet, and free and low cost training to help overwhelmed dog owners deal with problem behaviors.
Hopefully the Safety Net Program will lower the number of animals surrendered to the city shelter (more than 44K a year). No one should have to decide to give up their beloved companion!

I Work With Animals: Tracker Who Finds Lost Pets

The heart breaking fact is that family pets are ending up in shelters and it's not just happening in New York, this is happening all through our Country. One can almost read the faces, and demeanor of these pets, they sense something is wrong and yet can't tell what. I adore my two dogs, they are a comfort, they are love, I faced a tragedy this year and because I had still had to care for my dogs, I was able to keep on going. wherever i went, sat, or cried, they came and stayed by my side, they walked silently with me whatever I went. At least there are somethings still good in this world, and if these pet owners can be assisted in order to keep their pets, it would be one less blow to what they already are having to deal with, perhaps keep them going on as well.
I wish that there were more places that helped people that care about their pets and who could help people in Plano,Frisco,Carrollton,Dallas,AllenTX!!!! All those areas need a wonderful place like that.It would also generate a lot of jos for animal lovers. Could any of you start up an organization like that? I would be willing to work at it I know I along with my kids would be devistated if we had to get rid of our 3 Chihuahuas,7 birds and fish. We feel bad when a plant dies-can you imagine a pet!I am willing to help everyone/anyone with a problem.Just an e-mailaway.
