A Look Back
The Chihuahua's history is shrouded in mystery, but some believe he originated from the Fennec Fox, a very small animal with big eyes and ears, which could explain the tiny frame, luminous eyes and large ears on the breed today.
Did You Know...
The Chihuahua derives its name from the Mexican State of Chihuahua. It's believed that the ancient Aztec culture of Central America may have used the Chihuahua for religious sacrifice, burying them with their dead masters so their sins could be transferred to the dog. Some people believe the Chihuahua's small warm body can be used to relieve stomach upset and arthritis, or to discourage asthma attacks. Whether true or tall tale, this folklore proves the Chihuahua has long been a cherished companion.
Is a Chihuahua the right breed for your family?
Chihuahuas are alert dogs with terrier-like qualities. They are good with families if the children are gentle and patient. Because of their small size, they require little exercise and are good city dogs, but can be sensitive to cold temperatures. Smooth coated Chihuahuas need very little grooming due to their short hair. Long coats need occasional brushing but still require minimal grooming.

don't forget that they BITE ! they bark incessantly ... they are NOT good for children under about 8yr ... or even for those 8-16yr as they tend to want to "torment" the little dogs.
poeple should NOT buy them from breeders ... adopt through a rescue or the shelter ... make sure they do not get out of the house as they tend to run all over the neighborhoods and cause vehicle accidents and attack people.
I love my chi - she changed my life and is a little loyal ADORABLE baby doll. I recommend this breed to those that like a high energy - totally devoted loyal mini guard dog.
They will fiercely protect your life!
i love my Ponchita. she is 5 lbs of crazy and i wouldnt have it any other way.
I own a Chihuahua and I think that they are great little dogs to own. My little guy Poco is 13 years old and he's always there and very friendly. They are an easy type of dog to own and they will protect you when needed. Don't let the size fool you, they can be very protective. People that live in an apartment when there's not much space these dogs would be great. They also get along with other dogs and mine loves hanging out with the horses. Just my thought from a dog lover...http://whatwouldadogdo.blogspot.com/
i want a puppy so bad,do u know where can i find 1 that does not cost a lot
It depends on if you want a full bred chihuahua (usually a few hundred dollars) or would settle for a pound puppy (just pay adoption fees). I adopted mine from a pound. He is larger than a typical chihuahua (10 pounds), but I appreciate his larger size, since we also have a golden retriever.
I HIGHLY recommend that you visit the PetFinder website at http://www.petfinder.com/ if you would like to adopt a dog or puppy. That is how I found my Chi. You simply put your location in and it brings up dogs that are up for adoption in your particular area.
I love my Chi very much and he gets along great with our golden retriever (who we also adopted from a pound). I posted a story about them at http://www.petfinder.com/adoption-stories/index.cgi?story=18463.
I have a chi named Kairi who I love very much. She is almost 3 years old and is 5 lbs. She won't let anyone in the house without her approval. She is very protective of the ones she loves and alerts me to anything going on outside. She always knows when a storm is coming way before I know. She hides under the table until its over. She has brought so much joy to my life.
I have a Chihuahua and she is great does not bark... she is my whole life and take her when I can,,,, loves to sleep and play in the park,,,, good for old people and if you take good care of them and talk good to them they will repay you .......
