Best Dog Breed for Your Personality
Beagle
The beagle owner loves taking a bite out of life -- literally. Beagles make perfect companions for foodies. A person who loves big, group gatherings and gastronomically adventurous meals will find his or her perfect match in this adorable breed and be delighted by the pooch's inquisitiveness, pack-animal mentality, cleverness, yen for travel -- and especially, that pleading, "You gonna finish that?" expression.

Bulldog
Got a bulldog? Then chances are you're the strong, silent type. You also prefer the indoors and consider yourself a devoted family man (or woman). Explains Peterson, "Bulldogs were originally bred to bait bulls before they were brought to slaughter, but over the centuries, they've been developed to become family-friendly creatures. They like to just hang out, especially with kids." One more thing: it's likely you're a big college basketball fan, Peterson says, given the breed's popularity as a team mascot.

Chihuahua
Thanks to pop culture, Chihuahua owners have been branded as Paris Hilton types: fashion-conscious girlie-girls who gossip and socialize. But this graceful, quick and alert dog can also indicate an owner's deeper, more mystical side, says Peterson. "There's lots of ancient, Aztec folklore associated with the Chihuahua. It's long been thought that the dog itself possesses properties to cure upset stomachs and arthritis and to prevent asthma attacks. So someone who is interested in the big questions of the universe is likely drawn to the Chihuahua."
Best Dog Breed for Your Personality
Boxer
The ideal boxer owner loves the role of caretaker, believes in standing up for one's opinions, and admires physical strength, says Peterson. Why? Because boxers tend to copy the emotional expressions of their owners, and they're likewise proud, attentive, active beings.

Cocker Spaniel
Carpe diem-- grab life by the tail! Cocker spaniel owners are high-energy folks who love the outdoors and are happiest adventuring. As proof, Peterson cites one cocker spaniel who parachuted out of an airplane with its owner 16 times over the course of its life; another lived at sea for 13 years as the pet of a military skipper (logging two million miles of ocean travel in the process). But there's a gentler side to the cocker spaniel's human companion, too, says Peterson: "It's a side that they tend only to reveal to close family and friends." Also, there's a careful attention to detail, as cocker spaniels need daily brushing.

Dachshund
Homebodies love dachshunds, and vice versa. As a small hound, the dachshund likes to stay at home, cuddle under the sheets and be surrounded by comfortable environs. But just because they're creatures of comfort, that doesn't mean they're couch potatoes. In fact, dachshunds more often exude a happy, playful, spunky side.

Labrador Retriever
The loyal Lab looks to its owner for a daily to-do list, so an ideal match is someone who "likes constant companionship, likes to share and enjoys a great 'working' relationship," says Peterson. Labs are also one of the most dynamic and versatile dog breeds -- often used in bomb detection, for hunting or as guide dogs -- so a typical Lab owner is the active, outdoorsy type.
Best Dog Breed for Your Personality
Scottish Terrier
The tenacious, tireless Scottish terrier has owners who tend to be powerful. In fact, more presidents have owned Scottish terriers than any other breed. (Six of them have called the White House home, says Peterson.) Owners also possess a heightened sense of commitment, as terriers tend to form deep bonds with their owners.

Poodle
Poodle owners lead social lives and enjoy variety; they could hunt all day long as happily as they could enjoy a leisurely lunch with friends. They possess great curiosity, not just for what's found in books but for all sorts of exploring. And they know that variety is the spice of life, as the poodle breed comes in an array of shades and sizes. In fact, the only thing an ideal poodle owner doesn't like to do is sneeze and wheeze; poodles are a perfect breed for allergy sufferers.
Best Dog Breed for Your Personality
Yorkshire Terrier
The upwardly mobile might see a kindred spirit in this toy dog, once bred to exterminate rats in clothing mills but now much-adored for its larger-than-life (and bigger-than-its-size) personality. An added bonus for such jet-setters: Yorkies fit perfectly into portable lifestyles.

WE ARE SO THRILLED TO HAVE A WONDERFUL LITTLE RESCUE "CHUG" , WHICH IS CALLED A "DESIGNER DOG" , A CROSS OF A CHI. AND PUG...SHE WAS RESCUED AFTER THE HORRIBLE KATRINA HURRICAN IN NEW ORLEANS. SHE IS PRECIOUS, AND IS ADORED BY THIS FAMILY. SHE FITS IN PERFECTLY WITH OUR VIZULA AND SHETLAND SHEEPDOG. AND ALL THREE ARE BEST PALS WITH A RESCUE BOB TAILED CALICO CAT, CALLED "BOBBIE JO." THESE ARE OUR BABIES AND JUST "FIT THE BILL" IN OUR HOME AFTER ALL THE KIDS ARE GROWN AND ON THEIR OWN. THE LAST BEING A COLLEGE SOPHMORE.
What about the collie? Best dog breed as far as I am concerned. You need to be smart, gentle and kind to love this dog. Some people think they are big shedders, but not true. A German shepherd sheds more than a collie. And they don't need to be brushed every day, once a week does it and it is a good way to bond with your pup. Next best breed, if you like smaller is the sheltie. These are very smart dog breeds. A smart dog is important to me. I like a dog who understands what I say and never runs away. email me for pictures.
Haha. I was walking my uncles two boxers, they are very well behaved dogs and are trained very well.. This has happened on more than one occasion, even with my doxies, they have been charged at by shelties.. They are not friendly dogs at all!
Bulls are not just for slient type. I have four. My husband and I are not quite people. But PUG's are great dogs to we have nine. We love them all!!!!
I own seven Bulldogs they all lay around and enjoy the days, together. Love to be outside, they even have a little kiddie pool in the summer to cool off in. Enjoy the Holiday weekend everyone.
I am the proud caretaker of 2 Bostons, 2 Chihuahuas and a Fesit, all have their own personality and are a loved member of our family. I am a true Boston Terrier fan, IMO they are the perfect dog, great with kids, smart, loving and very devoted.
I, too, have a Boston and she is hands down the best dog we have ever had.......really smart, so loyal, loves to play fetch, the best best friend lovable companion!!!! Mine is 5 yrs old and we got her as an 8 week old puppy....house trained in one week!!!! Never had a dog do that before!!!
I agree with Bostons being the best dog. I have 2 and just bought my mother a 8 week old puppy for Mothers day, and he was house trained in a few days. They are very smart, loyal, and loving without being hyperactive or loud.
Over the years I have come to believe, make that know that there are no dumb dogs...just owners that don't have a clue. I also know that the training classes are for the humans rather then the dogs. Dogs also do not think or reason as humans do. Dogs want to please their humans and they also return affection when they get affection from their humans. I also think that a dog is a part of a family, not something to chain in the back yard and once in a while to give water and food. There is also no one breed that is the perfect dog for all, it depends on the humans involved.
Freida, I agree with you... there are no bad dogs. only crappy owners... I have owned Rotis, Prensas, Pits, shepherds, Shelties, a couple of Pekingnese (who turned out to be the meanest dogs I ever owned - they didn't last long), labs, and cockers. Other than the Pekes - I never had a mean dog... btw all my dogs since I reached adulthood, have been rescue dogs, and the Pekes were just MEAN, SPOLIED and MEAN. My Sheltie (who I have right now) wasn't on the list, but maybe it means I like to "herd" things - like my kids (I have six boys), I forgive easily, and don't hold a grudge.
I agree 100%. There are no dumb dogs, just clueless humans. I own a rottie, and unlike the reputation rotties have she is a devoted, affectionate, and protective animal, not unlike the black lab I used to own before he passed at the tender age of 15.
By the way under celebrity pets when it said that selma blair was walking her 'corgi' named wink (picture #3 or 30) they got it wrong. That dog is not a welsh corgi unless it's mixed with some other breed.
One major clue is that welsh corgi's; unless you're talking about the cardigan welsh corgi which is a mix of white and some other darker merled color; does not have a tail.
Secondly, even the corgi's that have tails don't have a curl in them. and the body shape is completely wrong. The chest isn't barrled enough and the front legs don't angle outward. Its face it too narrow and the ears are not big enough.
There for that dog is not simply a welsh corgi it has to be some mix breed. It is possible for it to have been cross-bred with a corgi but unlikely.
For proof take a look at the picture of queen elizabeth and all the dogs surrounding her. Those are corgi's.
Actually Clyde there is a Cardiff Corgi, that looks NOTHING like a Welsh Corgi... a friend of mine has one, and they look nothing alike. Maybe back in the fossil record they were related, but I don't know how they're both corgis... yunno that's the brits for ya.... when "plates of meat" are feet, it's confusing...
I have had Beagles, Doxies, Spaniels, Chihuahuas, and assorted Terriers in my life. They were all the best dogs in the world. Now I have a mutt---Lab-Chow. He is faithful and loving, and of course, "the best dog in the world."

We have 8 dogs, 4 of which we rescued and are keeping. We also rescued one black male cat, who loves being with the dogs. We have a curr, very protective, but shy. A German Shephard, protective, but needs to be brushed daily, 2 female labs, the mother lab actually curls her top lip and smiles. A jack russel/wired haired terrier, we have had him over 10 years. 2 yorkies and recently a beagle mix. We love them all, but they can be a handful sometimes.
LINDA 18,IT IS A SHAME THAT DOG POOP HAS NO DOLLAR VALUE, IF IT DID WITH THAT MANY DOGS YOU COULD RETIRE.
I HAVE IN THE PAST 3 DOGS AND ALL I DID WAS PICK UP AFTER THEM,BUT LOVED THEM ALL.
I adopted a 4 week old Louisiana Catahoula Leopard Dog, He was brought into my Vet's office to be put down. He was going to die because he was DEAF, I talked the lady out of him and brought him home. He was this little (17lbs) bundle of LOVE and wrinkles. 10 years later he is STILL the best dog I've ever come in contact with, he listens better than a hearing dog. His eyes are always on me so I have his constant attention. And he learned sign language, over 100 signs to communicate with me. Today he is still my 130lb baby. But I gotta admit he takes up alot of bed. But I wouldn't have it any other way. His Name is Doze as in Bulldozer.
My Rotty was the best friend I ever had! I wouldn't even consider any other breed. They would die for their family!
I have two Golden Retrievers. Their built-in smiles make my day, every day!!
