Flying with your dog or cat just got more expensive. Spirit Airlines recently raised its fee for traveling with a pet by $14 each way, making the total from point A to point B an even $100 (double that if you're planning on coming back!).American Airlines and Delta Airlines raised their pet travel fees last year too. In fact, the cost of a round-trip ticket for your pet -- on any airline -- is sometimes as much as a passenger ticket.
Why the heftier price tag? Some airlines say they need to charge pet travel fees to help keep passenger fees low, and that pets require extra care and handling that comes at a premium. JetBlue, which raised its pet travel fee to $100 each way last summer (a $50 boost round-trip) recently launched JetPaws. The program, which helps educate fliers on pet travel etiquette, issues frequent flier miles for its four-legged guests.

You are sooo correct, traveling with my cat has increased on Spirit from $35 a couple years ago to a hefty $100 each way. Why, I do not agree its extra handling or anything on their part, and if this is the reason - it is wrong in so may ways.
My cat, I carry on, put under the seat in front of me, and I provide her water onboard. She is quiet and most people think I have luggage under my seat. Which when you purchase a ticket(as I am told by Spirit, is called a Transfer Fee and is not subject to another bag as most ticket holders receive with their tickets. She does not make a sound, while meanwhile children under 2 fly for free, make noise, run up & down the aisle, receive special services, warm bottle or cause special clean up after their snacks from walls, floors and seats...........pls explain to me why I am penalized and her tickets cost way more than me.....oh, and they don't even get frequent rewards for traveling.....signed, dissappointed in the airlines reasoning.....yes, I thought of picketing, but I forget I'm not in the 60-70's or I would.
